And mine says so, as well.

Last year's acceptance timeline for PhD programs
Omnium replied to Omnium's topic in Linguistics Forum
Thank you! -
Nice to meet you! You seem to be my potential colleague; the same thing happened to me. I've been thinking that an interview would be a piece of cake, but as soon as it became [my]F reality, things look quite different. I'm happily nervous. Good luck to both of us!

Last year's acceptance timeline for PhD programs
Omnium replied to Omnium's topic in Linguistics Forum
You can look them up from Results Search (http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/) and by using appropriate keywords, e.g. CUNY linguistics, to search for schools of your interest. -
Hi guys, I've seen this sort of topic in some other subforum and I thought it might be worth making one for us. The list I will provide reflects what I am concerned in. And of course, I expect you guys to add those schools of your interest to the list. This is for PhD programs in Linguistics. UCLA: February 5-6 MIT: February 12 NYU: February 7 McGill: January 31-February 1 UBC: February 12 UCSC: February 8 Maryland: February 28 UConn: February 1 OSU: January 21

My experience is that ones who ask you that question often don't listen to you no matter how good of a justification for the field you have. Yet, I think it's a good question for yourself to think about as you seem to want to say what you're pursuing really counts. Putting applied linguistics aside and speaking of theoretical linguistics only, I think you might want to decide whether linguistics for you is a formal science like math, or it is a natural science that would eventually tell us about, for example, how our brain works. Then there might be rational ways to defend yourself as to why it is important to conceive of linguistics as the field that matters.

Take a look at the programs being offered at UW (http://www.compling.uw.edu/) and Brandeis (http://www.brandeis.edu/gsas/programs/comp_ling.html).

Anthropological Linguistics MAs for Linguistics BAs
Omnium replied to hoviariel's topic in Linguistics Forum
She could just apply to any anthropology PhD programs (where profs always suffer from the lack of prospective students) with some linguistic-y interests. -
April 15 is fast approaching. For the Wait-listed, and for those who have to make decisions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8jm61vk2Ao
-
Yes. Ask them to see if you can set up a visit, so that you can have a talk with a professor(s) that interests you. Are you in a situation where you have to make a decision right now? I would imagine that you have time at least till April 15. Does the program at U Florida interest you more than Syracuse does so? What is your research interest? Is the decision on funding pending? Regardless, I would also make a visit if it is possible. I don't know anything about those two universities. Yet, visiting helps when what you read is not enough for you to make a big decision. If you can't make visits, send emails to your potential advisors or those who seem to be doing something similar to what you would like to be doing in the future. They may or may not respond to your emails. But either way, I'd say you've got nothing to lose by doing so.
-
Are you currently in US? I think you should make a visit and see for yourself since they will fund you.
-
I got accepted to their Master's program today. I applied for MA, so I don't know about PhD applicants.
-
I believe that this: is @phonolog.
-
This is outrageous. I'm very surprised that such thing can happen. Sorry.
-
I can already sense that you favor UPenn.
-
That's amazing! I'll be giving a talk tomorrow morning at 10:30 on semantics stuff. If you're going to be around, do come check out!
-
Oh, snap. I'm applying for the McCawley Fellowship as well. I would like to offer you my best wishes as well. Meanwhile, I'm having a blast in Toronto (at UToronto's undergraduate conference). They seem to have a great department (and people) here.
-
I haven't. Good for him/her! I have no idea.
-
Speaking of the waitlist...
-
Thanks for the info. UMass' rejection will be a huge bummer for me. I really wanted to work with Prof. Seth Cable. I wish you a good luck on your admissions.
-
Well, you could wait till 27th, or send an email to the department now, asking for specifications. They could simply be saying that their rejection letters are going to be sent out on 27th, sealing the admissions process. Either way, I highly doubt that they would retract any (or more than a small number of, if this is ever the case) offers that have already been presented. Have you been notified of the number of admitted students when you've got your letter that put you on a waitlist from UMass?
-
I have made contact. So yes, and no, it is not part of an acceptance/rejection letter.
-
That is a great idea. However I can't stop thinking that that would probably be subject to noticeable increase in application fees. They should offer a checkbox as to whether an applicant wants the service or not. Well, and I will be very likely to use that service with joy.
-
So, Chicago made offers to 11 out of 130 applicants, and I'm not one of them. They seem to be officially done with their admissions for Fall 2013. Also, UMass is expecting to make their final decisions on February 27.
-
I really hope that is not the case. I hope that those who are admitted to UChicago would also have offers from all other schools excluding MIT. Edit: Come to think of it, that's not necessarily a logically beneficial situation for me either. Yeah. I guess I should hope for the same thing as you.
