  1. I am! Phd program in earth and environmental Science!
  2. I also got rejected from UCSC EPS today. I also had a few emails with my POI but I expected the rejection because I didn't submit Physics GRE scores (which my POI-Francis Nimmo recommended taking) and also I've heard Nimmo (POI) is really intense so I figured he'd have high expectations for applicants haha.
  3. As a life long East Coaster IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REGRET MOVING TO THE EAST COAST!!!!!!! I am having trouble considering leaving it even if I get into a better school elsewhere.
  4. Totally going through something similar. My boyfriend of 6 years needs to finish UG next year. And after that he doesn't really want to leave the east coast. Well, I have been accepted to one school in our current city and am interviewing at a school in Chicago tomorrow and am still waiting to hear from 3 schools after that, 2 of which are in California, 1 of which is in NY. I don't think I will get accepted to the school in NY (columbia) but he said he would go there with me if I got in. I doubt he would move to chicago, and he really doesn't want to go to the west coast. So, I'm potentially deciding between a good school with my boyfriend or a great school somewhere else. I think I'm going to choose the good school with my boyfriend, because, ya know, it's been 6 years... *Also my fit at the school in Boston is perfect and I loved it there. I just have high admiration for some faculty at the other schools.
  5. That is true. I'm tempted to withdraw my applications from the 4 remaining schools I'm waiting to hear from lol because out of them BU is really my top choice for research and I plan on attending there. But I am visiting Northwestern this week for this open house so I don't think I will withdraw my application there at least until later lol that would be rude. BUT IDK I'm hanging out to my other applications for selfish reasons because I want to know if I got in.....and have naother option maybe. But Tbh I wont even go there...I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. the rejections are getting to me.
  6. Aw I just got an email from my POI at Uchicago saying theyve decided not to admit me, even after my interview last week, because my research interests aren't a good fit. I agree with him lol and I wasn't going to go there if I was accepted but it still hurts my feelings because it was a personal email for personal reasons.
  7. Rejected from harvard eps today via post. Good luck to everyone else! I botched my application on this one but I expected to get rejected anyway even if I hadn't.
  8. Rejected from brown, boo! My first rejection. Oh well! My interview at uchi went really well though as far as i can tell! Heading home tonight.
  9. I'm still waiting on Columbia for geophysics but my hopes are down ever since seeing people post on the results board
  10. @NoNO: My prospective advisor is Paul Hall, if you were directing that q at me. And to everyone else: I am so jealous of the Columbia/Brown news. I just want a rejection letter already if that's what's coming, haha. It's torture knowing other people are hearing back. I also am curious about my UCSC and UCLA apps. I pretty much know my Harvard app is a bust because I submitted my transcript late. But I want to know about the others even though I think I've got a good chance at getting in from the shortlist at Northwestern/Uchi and I will probably end up at BU anyway.
  11. Geophysics/geodynamics Planetary interiors, potentially surfaces. Definitely physics-based.
  12. Woohoo, just got my first acceptance! BU offered me $31k guaranteed at least 4 years for phd program in their earth sciences dept! My POI models mantle plumes
  13. I just got my first acceptance and my POI quickly emailed me right after and suggested I email/call him soon to follow up
  14. I had a really similar interview experience (but solo, because I was personally invited by a professor, before admissions reviews started) and I'll second that it wasn't too stressful! I met with each faculty member in the department for 30 min and I had only really "researched" the professor that I hope to work with, and have been in contact with. I didn't expect to have sessions with every faculty member, and even though I didn't know who they were or what their research was before my interview, everything went very smoothly and was a great success in my opinion. The 30 min sessions were relaxed, most of the professors just talked me through their research in a way where I could follow along and add comments, etc. They all asked me about my research and background and we all had small talk. I went out for lunch with 3 graduate students who were *really* great and got to spend 30 minutes with one of them talking about his research too. Now, I have recently been invited to two more of these types of things. One where I will be alone, I imagine (I got to pick my date...maybe there will be a few others?) and one that is more of an open house and lasts 3 days. I'm going to make sure I know who everyone is and can speak with them about their work.
