Oh okay, that's cool! My most ideal situation would have been to get a degree in music business for undergrad....but during that time my family was going through some issues (both of my parents were really ill), so moving away wasn't an option. But in life, we just gotta take the opportunities before us...and make the best out what we are given. 8) I pretty much figured they value more work experience than anything, its that way with any job field. I don't mind moving up the ranks, my point was that NYU/NYC would give me more options for internships/jobs than being here in Nowheresville, NC Most of the major internships I researched require that you get academic credit for your work....but I'm sure there are some that don't. And even then, I still don't know anyone in NYC....so having an unpaid internship is still not a good situation either, considering I wouldn't be able to pay for an apartment, lol. I also realize that the industry will become more competitive in the coming years, that's why I'm also getting an MBA. I actually want to do strategic music marketing or either brand marketing. That way my education/work experience can translate to other industries.....just in case I get sick of music business But music biz is my passion though. Good luck with your art degree. :mrgreen:

I forgot to ask, just curious....what do you do in music industry? And how did you get there? And what are you getting your grad degree in now? 8)

My reasoning for applying, to be honest.....location & connections. Sometimes just applying for a music business job will not work, especially if you don't know anyone. I worked in radio marketing & promotions in small town in NC, but made very few valuable connections. And while I could slowly climb to the top - i'm talking years and years , I think attending NYU would give me a better jumpstart. Most people say...."well, why not just move to NYC". Well, kind hard when you don't have a job...and don't know anyone there. Going to NYU will help me get acclimated to the city....while pursuing the career I really want. And I feel NYU would open more doors for internships. I went to a small university in NC for undergrad, and I had to drive one hour everyday to my internship. :x An internship I set up on my own (because the career services at my university couldn't accommodate my needs). I do realize that I'll be paying a lot to attend NYU, but in my case....I'm willing to take that risk.

When I decided to apply to grad school in 2006....my coworkers said the same to me. It was SOOO annoying. I actually decided not to attend grad school during that time though. And I didn't dare make the same mistake when applying this time. I only told ONE person at work....because I hate people constantly asking me "have you heard anything"

@ the responses. I'm in the same position. Although I just told my supervisor I was leaving, but its been hard keeping this all to myself. Especially after the stress of re-taking GRE, writing essays, getting reference letters....its been exhausting. I only told ONE of my coworkers....I needed to vent to someone. But now that I've been accepted, it puts my administrator and supervisor in a bad position. I work at a medical school, and there is a university-wide hiring freeze right now. Sooooo, that means they probably won't fill my position. I have a pretty important job and it needs to be filled ASAP. But my immediate supervisor is supportive of my decision. I've yet to tell the head administrator yet though (she's the one that will probably give me trouble about it :roll: ). I don't know what they are going to do....but I'M OUTTA HERE!!! NYU here I come!

I'll say this much....I emailed admissions office about my deposit, and never heard back from them....that was 3 weeks ago. So you'll need to go to someone in the department directly....lol. Although I wouldn't address this to the director. I'm not sure of how she'll react to it (I haven't met her yet). Maybe you should contact her Grad Assistant first. I'll send you her email address in a private message. 8)

If it were me....I would just email. I know they usually discourage calling (although i did it anyways , but I just called the admissions office...and they were no help of course...lol ).

@IWannaKnowNow....I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you'll get accepted off of the waitlist. I know someone from last year who was accepted off of waitlist, at the end of July. Don't give up yet. Maybe you should send a letter to admissions, reiterating how much you want to be in the program. 8) @waitingonnyu. Yep they do have the best program. I'm baffled how NYU accepted me, yet UM rejected me (I applied there last year). I also applied to Columbia College Chicago's program. Got accepted, deferred, and ended up declining in the end. I should have never applied there in the first place....lol. This has been a wild 2-3 years....now I'm finally going back to school. I hope I'm not too rusty... lmao.

^LOL. What other sites did you visit? I did the same a while back....and I came up with this site only. I think only about 3 people from this site (myself included) got accepted for Fall 2009 for MUBG. If you do a results search and type "music business", there are only two entries for Fall 2009. The rest are from years past. I would suspect that since NYU is one of the few universities that has it as a grad program, it might be really popular. But then again, most people major in music business during undergrad. So there might be less applicants than we think. Keep me updated....I hope everything works out for you and waitingonnyu. 8) Oh yeah...btw, did either of you apply to University of Miami's program too?

Sorry, I missed this earlier. I think there are 60 people total (1st year grads, and 2nd year grads). They accept about 30 new students each year. Being from another location may help. I hear that NYU (in general) tends to favor applicants out of NYC area. (I'm in NC...so that may have helped me somewhat). So with that said, they may have a percentage of international students they want to admit. So you might be right about that. I guess the only thing you can do is....wait. Unfortunately. :| Let me know if I can do anything to help. 8)

I got the same response a few weeks before I got my acceptance email. 8) We probably talked to the same lady So either that is a routine response, or they truly haven't decided yet. I'm not sure if the process is different for international students, it could be. I know the admissions office is not very helpful they give you the basic info....you can't really read into anything they say. But for now....if I were you, I'd just be happy they said "no decision has been made". I would think they would say "the decision has been mailed on ____" if a rejection is indeed coming. I would hope they wouldn't give applicants false hope like that. That's just my opinion, but you never know.....these admissions people are really unpredictable, LOL.

Also, to add.....I applied for MUBG back in 2007, and didn't get in. :| I found out (via snail mail) around mid-April. So, the wait may not mean bad news. Waiting is better than having a rejection, IMO. 8) The thing I hated about the process was that there are absolutely no published info on how many people apply, and how many are accepted. But I did find out that there are about 30 open spots each year for this program (I found out via someone in admissions). Still not sure how many applied.

^^^^^I applied for the same program (MUBG) ....I did regular decision (Feb 1st). I mean, I overnighted that application on the very last day possible. I was still working on my personal data outline the morning I was supposed to send it off Not a procrastinator, just a perfectionist...lol. I got my acceptance email on March 25th...and the letter came about 3 weeks later (I'm in NC). I suspect maybe you are some type of waitlist. I know that they made decisions in batches....because someone else on this forum found out about 3 weeks before I did. And he sent his app off a couple of days before me. Don't give up hope yet....it may still be good news. I hope you get in. 8)

In some cases, my references made another copy so that I could see it. You NEED to know what these people are saying about you, because it could make or break you. I had a similar situation happen to me. One of my references wrote a piss poor letter, that was about 2 or 3 paragraphs of "nothing" basically, lol. I surely did NOT use that letter. Its not that she didn't have nice things to say....she didn't either 1) no know how to say it in an effective way, or 2) was in a rush and just threw it together. And I should not be penalized for her carelessness. You might say, "I could have chosen a better reference"...however, sometimes you don't know how their LOR will look, until its already done...lol. So with that said....I think its okay to ask for one extra letter. I personally don't consider it unethical...but that's just me. 8)

^April 15th is the usual deadline, however decisions may go on waaaayy after that, lol. Which program area you waiting on?

I agree....there's no way of telling. I was accepted into a grad school back in 2006, and it was a small thin envelope. They sent the rest of the crap later... And just recently I was accepted into NYU, and I got a large envelope. There is no way of knowing.....when you get the package, just open it...lol. 8)

Yes, hang in there. I only applied to one school....and I waited forever for a decision. I'm sure you can imagine my anxiety, because if I didn't get in....i truly had no idea what I would have done next.... I just found out I got accepted. So the waiting could be good, don't automatically think its a bad. Just try to enjoy life, until the decisions come in....b/c you may be surprised and may get an acceptance soon. And you'll look back at this time you wasted being nervous of the outcome. I know its hard....its all out of your hands now anyways. So do as much as you can, to get your mind off of it.

I was accepted into NYU Steinhardt (just got the email yesterday)....but I was NOT able to create a log-in. So if you are having trouble with that....you are not alone, lol.

^^^ Well, the results are IN.....I've been accepted to NYU Steinhardt! So that waiting was actually good news. They sent me an email today, however I don't have the official letter yet. It kind of makes me nervous....like what if they sent the wrong email to me?!.... Okay, I need to take a step back and relax now. The waiting had me on edge...and I'm thinking crazy right now, lol. ^You only applied to one school? Seems like we are in the same boat.... I think its bad to be waitlisted, but it adds even more pressure because you only applied to one place. I feel your pain. I have a feeling NYU Steinhardt waitlisted me too....I got a vague response when I called on Friday. Some have been accepted, some rejected (from what I hear). Hey....I'll take waistlist, than a rejection.......any day. I just wish they would at least tell me that much, instead of "they haven't made a decision on your application yet"....lol.
