  1. Thanks for the info, france! I PM'd you too, but this info is really helpful.
  2. Rejected from UConn. Welp, that wraps it up for me. Just have to wait for funding now from the other two.
  3. Hi all, I'm gonna bump this if everybody doesn't mind. I'm looking for housing info, as it's looking very likely that I'll be in UMass this fall. Other than Craigslist and the few links above, does anybody have any suggestions for cheap-ish apartments? I've got a car, so some distance is fine. Thanks in advance!
  4. I thought this was hilarious, so I'm proably right there with you... I just emailed UConn to see if they have an update on my application. Any semblance of optimism I was holding onto has been plummeting over the past hour or so, lol. And I just got accepted to UMass! So excited! Mood reversed!
  5. Well you were the one who had the email conversation with UConn about decisions and they said none had gone out and there was another meeting this week, right? The first part obviously wasn't true, but maybe that second part is. Perhaps they accepted the students who were eligible for the fellowship, waited a few days for people to possibly decline, and will send a second wave of decisions this week? That's the hope I'm clinging to, at least.
  6. AH, stop saying that! lol. I'm still holding out hope for UConn! From what ToF has been saying the early acceptances might have something to do with a fellowship. Plus, one of those acceptances (Europe) already said they were declining. Gotta have hope!
  7. Lol, oops. Well I doubt you're the first to do something like that, and we'd be hard-pressed to find someone here who hasn't done something that they almost immediately regretted.
  8. Yeah, I'm curious as to why Rick Santorum came up in a discussion with the DGS anyways, especially since it wasn't a modern US historian.
  9. Sounds like a plan, good luck! And thanks for the info on the decision stuff, too bad it'll probably be getting here right when I leave for March break.
  10. Is that the masters or PhD at UMass? And good luck with the waitlist -- hopefully some people above you will choose elsewhere!
  11. Native American history, so I doubt it lol. And I'm totally on edge about UConn right now. It's my top choice and the only PhD I've applied to, so I'm really hoping for a good result.
  12. Are they not aware of this site? lol. But it still sounds like good news from my end.
  13. That Indiana admit might be a friend of mine at my school -- she just made a facebook status about getting in.
  14. And Twist of Fate: Are you the one who reported their acceptance on the search results, or is that someone else? (I read more closely and answered my own question -- but now are you the new one to report results?)
  15. Wow, exact same boat! Well, until that last sentence. I'm a senior, accepted to Maine's MA, waiting on UConn's PhD.
  16. Thanks, TMP. I appreciate the advice. And tip of the cap to goldielocks for your input as well.
  17. I don't know what to say to that... They've told me that they only consider applicants for TA positions once they have accepted admission. That was the response I got when I contacted the DGS, who encouraged me to wait until I heard from other schools. But what happens if I don't hear back before the early April aid deadline?
  18. Hello all, I was hoping to get some advice on something, and I apologize if this is the sort of thing that you guys get way too much of. I'd really appreciate any input, though. I'm applying to three programs (MA at UMaine, MA at UMass Amherst, and PhD at UConn) with the goal of completing a PhD in Native American history. My main focus in Nativs of the northeast and the issues surrounding cultural contact and exchange as well as ethnography. I'm currently a triple-major (History, Anthropology, Archaeology) with a 3.86 gpa. I'm involved in extra-curriculars (History Assoc. president, editor-in-chief of the anthropology journal, Honors council, etc.), I have some TA experience (survey of Early American History, and Cultural Anthropology), and I've worked as a tutor. GRE scores were 163 (verbal), 147 (q), and 5.0, and I've completed a senior thesis already, working on two more papers at the moment. So here's where the question part comes in -- I've been accepted to UMaine, but they have a separate application for funding, which I'd need to fill out soon. This is, of course, contingent on accepting their offer of admission. However, I still haven't heard from the other two programs, and if I got in to either of those schools I'd probably lean towards going to one of them. So my question is, should I accept UMaine's offer and apply for funding, knowing that I may have to rescind that later? Because if I don't get into the other schools I'd still really like to go to UMaine, and the funding would be a big help. I'd love to hear some advice on this... Thanks!
