  1. To anyone in a similar situation as me: I called UVic today, and I was told my application was still under review and that the committee will be meeting some time soon to make another round of decisions. Fingers crossed.
  2. That was my impression too. However, scanning the "Results Survey" indicates that a lot of applicants to UVic were accepted or rejected only by their mystatus page. Anyway, I will probably call later this week.
  3. Anybody else waiting on UVic MA Poli Sci? My site status remains "under review." Fingers crossed I may be on their second-tier and just waiting for a few first round decline of offers...
  4. Rejected from UBC. Looks like another semester of undergrad for me.
  5. Not lookin' good for me ...
  6. Anyone hear from UBC Poli Sci MA today?
  7. I e-mailed today and was told decisions will go out next week.
  8. I e-mailed UBC today and was told that decisions will be sent out next week.
  9. Because the department is a ghost town.
  10. Rejected via e-mail from SFU's MA in philosophy.
  11. Frankly, in my books, having the chutzpah to say "Rawls is garbage" ought to disqualify one from serious academic debate. There are lots of theorists and philosophers I have read over the years I disagreed with. I'd never say their work is "garbage." But this is an internet forum and I guess the "rules" are a little slippery. Anyway, yes, I like Rawls and I think political liberalism is rightfully the dominant philosophy of our age. As Fukuyama and others have more or less laid out, virtually all mainstream political debate is now over policy and not principle. That's a good thing.
  12. As a cheerleader for Rawls, sounds like the place for me. Did I really just see somebody write "Rawls = garbage?" Oh man...
  13. I have applied to political science MA programs at UBC and UVic. Heard nothing so far.
  14. ... you guys broke me down. I e-mailed UVic to ask what's up.
  15. BTW. Which schools? UVic, Queens and McGill seem to be the places in Canada for political theory/philosophy.
  16. The distinction is probably a lot less significant than you are imagining. It essentially comes down to this: political theory is "richer", political philosophy is more "rigorous." You read a lot wider in political theory, and a lot deeper in political philosophy. And of course you tend to have stronger knowledge of the other aspects of the respect disciplines.
  17. A great blog post on political theory vs. political philosophy. http://profs-polisci.mcgill.ca/levy/theory-philosophy.html
  18. Those should be eliminated from undergraduate programs. *ducks*
  19. No need to kid. Calgary does suck. Especially the Flames. Ugh.
  20. This is false. I just sponsored my wife for permanent residency. The entire process from start to finish took a little under six months. The key is to apply externally and not internally -- and also, hire an immigration lawyer. It is absolutely worth the expense. The only way that I can see a PR application taking two years is if your spouse is from an extremely underdeveloped country. PM me for more information on spousal sponsorship, if you need. I've gone through just about every immigration headache you can imagine trying to obtain my wife's PR. But it will not take two years to process. Whomever told you that is silly.
  21. Wow -- that was fast from SFU. I am still waiting to hear, though I applied to their Specialized MA program as I'm probably more political science-y than anything else. I applied with interest in political philosophy/political theory.
  22. It is probably a little early yet.
