  1. Has anyone received an official acceptance from the faculty of grad studies for McGill yet? This is certainly taking a while. I would really just like to accept and get this whole debacle over with.
  2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I highly doubt that the dept of graduate studies would reject you based on having a few poor grades. Generally their baseline standards are lower than the departments themselves, and the point of running it by grad studies is so that they can do a background check/make sure that you're going to graduate on time etc. You applied to essentially the two top econ departments in the country, and if they accepted you, I'm sure there won't be a problem with grad studies.
  3. Why not just email him? When I did he responded within the hour.
  4. Every time I contacted Louis Tentsos (grad secretary), he was very gracious in responding quickly. Either that or the grad director, Simone Chambers.
  5. That's odd, I was under the impression that McGill was harder to get into, as the UofT program is 2+ times the size... See crapshoot comment above. But yes, I agree, There is no way I can afford to live in Toronto without much funding. Very excited for McGill! Now if only they would send out funding info!
  6. I'm sorry dufromage! A good friend of mine was also just rejected with a good GPA and killer LORs (from McGill to boot). I guess sometimes it really is a crapshoot.
  7. To those waiting on McGill MA - a professor confirmed that they made decisions today. Everyone should hear back this week!
  8. Oops, I missed this post. Disregard my previous question. Yay! Not too long until I am out of my misery.
  9. Congrats! Anyone have any thoughts on how long it might take after PhD admits for MA admits? I'm an undergrad at McGill but my profs have been pretty cagey about whether or not they've even looked at applications.
  10. Don't say that! There are many rounds of acceptances - a professor at my school told me that usually only 30% of the admitted students accept... Once some people turn their offers down, they'll send out more. No official rejection is good news. Good luck!
  11. I'm sorry for your rejection, but I think you're giving readers misleading information. I was accepted into the program you're referring to (UBC MA poli sci) and I am 21 and from Montreal. I see no reason why there would be an age/province bias. That would simply be to the detriment of the department, and I highly doubt that the acceptance committee would risk hindering their program based on arbitrary categories.
  12. Yeah, I was a jerk who emailed to ask (but only because I have a deadline for my second choice on Friday). Informal offer, but the grad director informed me that the official responses will go out probably today or tomorrow.
  13. Congrats on your offers! I'm in the same situation. Accepted to Queen's with funding, U of T without. I guess because they admit 45+ MA students it would be a stretch to afford, especially because they also have an inordinate number of PhDs to fund, but it does seem a bit silly. Not sure if they will be able to attract the best students this way. I'm also very conflicted.
  14. For what it's worth, you can probably expect to hear from McGill before that. The graduate secretary seems to be telling people that decisions will be out in April or May, but I ran into the grad director and he told me they were planning to meet very soon so that they can start getting offers out. I think they're feeling pressured by the early first round deadlines.
  15. Not a troll! It wasn't me who posted, but I also got an email from the grad secretary saying that I was on the list for acceptance, and he just needed to go over the files before sending offers (this was in response to an inquiry because I have an upcoming deadline for another program).
