Has anyone applied to the Maine College of Art? They said they would be informing people this week. Alas, no news yet.

Hi Summers, Call the director. Remind her/him of the connection you made and how much you want to attend their school. They are the gatekeepers, but you are their client. They want people who want to be there. You've got an 'in'. Leverage it. My 2 cents. Good luck!

Congratulations! How did you find out?

I just had it this morning. It was good. I looked at it as an opportunity to learn more about the strengths/weaknesses of my work, and to practice interviewing. There were very few questions. I was told about the program. I got to explain the rationale behind my work, and why I made certain stylistic choices, and the rest was a crit. I spent most of the interview listening and asking questions for clarification, and at times (once or twice - it was a very insightful crit - explaining why I felt differently). It was relaxed, informal and an education in and of itself. I was told that there were about 100 people invited to interview for it, so I expect there are several profs doing this and no two interviews would be alike. Advice? I don't know, I guess, try to be as relaxed as you can, don't be afraid to sell yourself a little as a viable candidate, and take it as it comes. Good luck!

Judging by the responses, SAIC lied to me! Grrr. Maybe it was just the painting and drawing department's policy?

Unfortunately, from what they've told me, SAIC is only snail mail. Hang in there.

Unfortunately, I am done. Columbia and Parsons weighed in last night and today, respectively, and it's over. (haven't heard from SAIC yet, but since they've done all the interviews...) I wanted to thank you all for your kind support and feedback throughout this process. Those who are in, Congratulations! Enjoy every minute of it! Those who do not yet know, hang in there. That's pretty cool to hear. Maybe I should do more than use her level of productivity as an inspiration, but I should also get her to help me market.

Well, there is a particularly harsh reality in that even the professional artists we seek training from still have to work for a living. I wonder how often they day-dream about being able to quit and thrive solely on sales? I wouldn't take it as a slight. You probably just got one of them during mid-terms, crits, admin. garbage and interviews. That prof. probably envied you.
