  1. Has anyone applied to the Maine College of Art? They said they would be informing people this week. Alas, no news yet.
  2. Hi Summers, Call the director. Remind her/him of the connection you made and how much you want to attend their school. They are the gatekeepers, but you are their client. They want people who want to be there. You've got an 'in'. Leverage it. My 2 cents. Good luck!
  3. Congratulations on the acceptance! Here's hoping for the cash!
  4. On the upside, I'm really happy for you. You going to accept? On the downside, I have lost all hope. Can I live vicariously through you? LOL
  5. I just had it this morning. It was good. I looked at it as an opportunity to learn more about the strengths/weaknesses of my work, and to practice interviewing. There were very few questions. I was told about the program. I got to explain the rationale behind my work, and why I made certain stylistic choices, and the rest was a crit. I spent most of the interview listening and asking questions for clarification, and at times (once or twice - it was a very insightful crit - explaining why I felt differently). It was relaxed, informal and an education in and of itself. I was told that there were about 100 people invited to interview for it, so I expect there are several profs doing this and no two interviews would be alike. Advice? I don't know, I guess, try to be as relaxed as you can, don't be afraid to sell yourself a little as a viable candidate, and take it as it comes. Good luck!
  6. Judging by the responses, SAIC lied to me! Grrr. Maybe it was just the painting and drawing department's policy?
  7. Unfortunately, from what they've told me, SAIC is only snail mail. Hang in there.
  8. How did it go? I've got mine tomorrow. Any advice? Thanks!
  9. Congratulations! And, thanks for the perspective.
  10. Unfortunately, I am done. Columbia and Parsons weighed in last night and today, respectively, and it's over. (haven't heard from SAIC yet, but since they've done all the interviews...) I wanted to thank you all for your kind support and feedback throughout this process. Those who are in, Congratulations! Enjoy every minute of it! Those who do not yet know, hang in there. I have heard good things come to those who wait. If there is anyone who is in my boat, happy hour came early, let's get started! Take care everyone!
  11. That's pretty cool to hear. Maybe I should do more than use her level of productivity as an inspiration, but I should also get her to help me market.
  12. Well, there is a particularly harsh reality in that even the professional artists we seek training from still have to work for a living. I wonder how often they day-dream about being able to quit and thrive solely on sales? I wouldn't take it as a slight. You probably just got one of them during mid-terms, crits, admin. garbage and interviews. That prof. probably envied you.
  13. http://erinloree.blogspot.com/ (I am hoping she doesn't mind - LOL)
  14. Off topic, but I thought I would share - I hope no one minds. I went to a Toronto art fair on the weekend and found myself at the booth of a young woman who had just finished her BFA. I was quite taken with her work, and I picked up a piece ( I liked it, and I had the money - esp. since I am counting on not getting in to a Master's - bring on the iPad 3 and a new car!!! LOL). She dropped the piece off yesterday, and between Saturday (paying for the painting) and Wednesday (receiving the work) I did some research on her work. I was blown away. Her portfolio was so diverse. She showed skill in many areas, and her work, IMO, had a great deal of depth - conceptually. I got to thinking, maybe I'm just not ready. Maybe I need to spend another year really pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and paint and sculpt, maybe even shoot and printmake. Maybe I just need to really work hard and explore. It seems to me, she eked every drop of learning and experience out of her BFA. I did not. Perhaps I'm just not ready to get what she got out of her Bachelor's out of my Master's. Maybe I need to cut back on my work hours and double up on studio time. And perhaps I'm just trying to soften the blow of rejection. I hope everyone has a fruitful day and the letter are filled with YES-es and financial packages.
  15. Thanks Kazoo, I will try. Okay-ish is better than poorly. Just because you weren't loving it, doesn't mean that they saw that too. I have a real problem reading other people, and luckily, even when I think it went poorly, it often works out, so don't despair! Starting to think I should have chosen a different handle from Mr. Sad - reading it makes me think I set myself up for failure. Ha.
  16. Me too. SUNY Buffalo too. For some perverse reason, I thought knowing would be better than not knowing. I was wrong. I put a lot of my hopes into this process. So, I am going to do the very stereotypical. Get drunk on Absinthe, and have Gauguin cut my ear off. Have a great weekend everyone.
  17. jjr8888 Congrats on the acceptances! SAIC was one of my choices, and I see that you were 'rejected' (sorry). I was wondering how you found out because I haven't heard a thing from them. Of course, i am assuming I'm out of the game, but knowing would be nicer than limbo, IMO. Thanks!
  18. ol'spice, Nice work. Definitely stay in touch with her. Keep us updated on your progress too! Always nice to hear success stories.
  19. That is really nice to hear. Nothing wrong with a little validation. If she is that interested in your work, who knows where it will take you (or where she will). If you don't mind, what was the question? LOL
