That's pretty good. I am international as well unfortunately. Do you need to pay back need-based aid, or is it like a scholarship? What do you think of the social life at SAIC, good dorms/ student community? One thing about New York is everyone is so focused on career, they don't really have time to hang out... SAIC would be cool because you have so many art students I imagine everyone would get along pretty well in that respect.

can I ask for those of you who got into parsons - how much funding you got from them
-
what is your funding like at UCLA?
-
They only had one scholarship. It was for 100% tuition. This guy got it: http://muratadash.com/ To be honest, I don't think my style of performance fits in with what they like to do there... If I went I would be more broadly based across different departments like photography, film and new media, art and technology... The performance department is very much concentrated on that wear something strange and do a strange action in public location. I like something more low-key... and emotionally closer

Hi Michael, I was just wondering also - do you feel like students get a lot of personal attention as such? Because unlike another mfa program where maybe there are 10-25 students total in a year level, there are literally hundreds doing mfa at a time at SAIC.... do you get the chance to form close relationships with teachers and such?

Can I ask people's opinions about this school. I got into the performance department... but if I went I would take classes from all different areas. Honestly I think it would be pretty good for developing skills and practice, especially with studio classes running for like 6 hours or something. But what about career ambition-wise? Being located in Chicago, are you sort of out of the loop of the NYC/LA coastal focused art world? Especially in something like new genres practice or performance. I just feel like if I went here, it would help develop my skills, but not really my career. It's also fucking expensive. lol any thoughts from others? And I know that Chicago is a major city and all, but as far as the contemporary art world is concerned - is it?
-
why is the program so great (for new genres)? Isn't it expensive as hell, with zero funding available... I don't recognise any of the artists on the faculty either in new genres...
-
oh yeah and I got a handwritten note on the letter as well. Mostly illegible, have to find someone good at reading curved handwriting... haha something about "excellent work.... something something... where you will be allowed to develop as an artist perhaps use New York City as a muse"

ok guys news: Just got a fedex admitting me to Parsons MFA in fine art. They gave me a scholarship of $15000 annually. Really to be honest was hoping for more. They were enthusiastic about my work in the skype interview, but I guess I was more nervous or something and didn't explain my practice that well... Anyway yeah, I'm thinking of negotiating... especially with other offers on the table at the moment. The shortfall is $24000 a year that I'd have to come up with somehow if I were to take the offer. I don't think I can afford it right now. Anyone else interview with Parsons/ receive word for fine art?
-
Ok well in that case maybe I've gotten in... but I am still unable to access the financial aid link. When I click check your financial aid status, it says this function is not enabled for user or something. That's the big question, if I get the funding to go there... Apparently the scholarship has gone down from last year. I remember somebody getting 75% scholarship last year, this year in my skype interview they told me the max. scholarship is 65%... but haha I'd be ok with that
-
I applied to the MFA fine art at Parsons, and I can log in... it says on the front page congrats on acceptance etc., but to be honest I don't think it means you're accepted necessarily. They could have just given applicants under consideration logins just in case...
-
what happens if you accept the offer before the April 2 deadline, then reject it later if you didn't get the funding?
-
what do you mean you got it? Don't we have to apply for it through writing a letter right now? Or did they offer it to you straight out with admission?
-
How many people out of those accepted receive the rutgers TA'ship however? I'm hoping something like half haha, but I think I remember someone posting it was only like 3 people?
-
ok just got admitted to rutgers (by email), um why are they saying we have to decide by April 2nd? Did anyone else get a letter saying that, apparently it's because of studio assignments?)
-
new genres. I think they're only starting to interview now. I was told the process will move rapidly from here though...
-
Ok just finished skype interview with Parsons, I really don't interview well lol when nervous, but I think they are accepting me in the program... it's just a question of funding...
