Can anyone speak in an informed way about what a 'deposit' entails? I'm on the waitlist for SAIS (sad face), and contemplating a scenario where I accept at another school, pay a deposit, and then am offered a spot off the WL.

The Chance of getting off the wait list
Coloradical replied to erry3779's topic in Government Affairs Forum
How flexible are your summer plans? Honestly maybe you can drop a deposit and then enroll at a more-preferenced school if you come off the waitlist. I was WL'd at SAIS and one thing that keeps my hope alive is that most people apply (and seem to be accepted to) multiple universities. Obviously we can only attend one school so spots are bound to open up. Keep hope alive! -
can we just get this over so I can focus my fretting on SFS?
-
sadly yes. my patience is out of practice after 3 notifications yesterday
-
What was the earliest hour people started hearing today? I feel like it was before 8am ET... and yeah, it is getting that desperate
-
I remember applying to undergrad and hearing rumors that lower-tier schools would WL or even reject strong applicants because they want to pad their offer/accepted stats. Either way, it's insane the way it turned out for you. Rumor has it that SFS will release by mid next week.

e: just kidding it says MPP in your bio

i was confused until I realized that USN&WR is scientifically created bullshit designed for upper middle class white parents.

You rock! This is super helpful, though I do begin to worry about financial commitment and logistics. Hopefully MSFS pulls through and it won't be an issue! As a native Texan, I don't think you're crazy at all! I think a lot of it depends on what you're looking for. What's your focus within IR? How important is the private sector/UN connection?
-
exactly that for me e: I can only assume it means we've been accepted with full funding

Can someone de-mystify the waitlist process (specifically at SAIS)? Their letter said that decisions would be made in June or July, but isn't that terrifyingly late for type-A grad students who need to set their lives up? I tried to mine the forums, but it wasn't clear if decisions were ever made earlier than that. On the other hand, can you accept an offer, pay the $250 deposit, and then accept a different offer if you're pulled off the waitlist? Also, great username/post combo:

Huge congrats! Let us know what you decide!

The Fletcher MALD Thread Spring/Fall 2012

It is interesting to look just between GWU, Fletcher and SAIS at which combinations of A/R/WL people end up with. -
never fear! a lot of people are in this boat too. I think they'll all be out within the next couple days.
-
yeah at this point I'm just desperately refreshing. hopefully I'll wake up to some good news!
-
Not yet for me! I think they said something about rolling them out in the order people applied? But good luck to everyone that just woke up and is f5ing AY hard...

I posted an article a while back about current students calling admitted applicants to congratulate them. There's no way this is their official way to notify, right? Although they say mail by April 1 so maybe they really call a couple hundred students beforehand..? e for article: http://msfs.georgetown.edu/188223.html

are they serious about this June/July decision timeframe? How is that even possible for applicants? -

I don't know if it even applies, but did you apply well before the deadline? I barely made it and wonder if it will delay my results.
