  1. A month ago SIPA's SOP topic use to be : Please describe how your academic, professional, and personal background has influenced your decision to pursue a graduate degree from SIPA. How and why will the pursuit of a degree at Columbia University
  2. How is MIT's MS in Securit Studies under their Politics department? I never hear anyone talking about it. Is it not comparable to schools like SAIS and Gtown SSP? Also, how competitive is it to get into this program?
  3. i wish i had an onscreen caculator. haha what book are you studying from? so far it sounds like total gabage
  4. what happens if i just totally skip the experimental section since apparently they tell you now?
  5. what are some other good programs that are not in the top 10?
  6. did it tell you which one was the experimental section?
  7. do you have any internship experience? and i've come across a handfull of people at berkley who got accepted straight from undergrad with little work experience.
  8. thanks eastofeden. I am deffinetly going to retake the GRE next month. Around how many words did you memorize for the GRE? I memorized about 500~ and I still did not know a lot of the words in the antonym and analogy questions.

  11. hey miss molly, good to know that I am not the only one applying straight out of undergrad. I'm applying to Gtown, Gw and NYU as well!
  12. i heard some of these programs like sipa are cash cows for the school. Is the thought of increasing enrollment to get more money to fund PHD students a possibility?
  13. i have already memorized around 400 words. my test is in a week and a half. i can probably get another 100 words in. should i memorize prefixes and suffixes or just more words?
  14. good to see all the 2010 contenders trickling in. I am also going to be applying for fall of 2010 so I am not a connoisseur by any means. But 800q/600v is a very respectable score and i dont know if its worth retaking the test for another 20-40 points. Unless, of course, if youre highly confident on being able to significantly improve your already decent score of 600.
  15. rileypep your stats are really similar to mine. so i hope you get in to your top choices(for my sake as well)
  16. It likely will not decrease your chances; but it will give the adcoms less to weigh when compared to others who will have already completed econ classes. Check out this thread from before with some of the same concerns. Do note that not all schools require (only recommend) that applicants take the classes. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=14690
  17. i have not taken my macro and micro courses yet and i was wondering if that will decrease my chances of being accepted into a program (SIPA, elliot, SAIS, SIS, etc.)? I dont think ill have time to take the classes before i send in my application but ill be taking micro in the fall and macro in the spring during my last semester as an undergrad.
  18. i belive NYU's international relations masters under their politics program was the one ranked. As for the MS in Global affairs i dont have any knowledge on the program.
  19. thanks for the encouragement guys. Although, my GPA, LOR, and SOP are all well above average i only have a year of work experience under my belt and its only through internships and campaigns. With this weakness on my application, I dont want to add another one by scoring low on the GRE :-( bahhhh time to buckle up and overdose on more vocab.
  20. i think my problem is applying the tricks to the appropriate problems. i'll either forget them and have no idea how to solve the problem or solve it in a totally different way
  21. i have been practicing for the GRE for the past two weeks now and the scores i get on powerprep aren't increasing at all. I have been hovering around the 630 range for quant and 520 for verbal. I understand what I need to do for verbal (cram my brain with vocabulary) but i dont understand where i need to improve or how i can improve on the quant. I completed the kaplans practice book and princeton's practice book as well. ill be taking my test in early july so I still have a month and a half to study. should i keep doing practice problems out of books or buckle up and spend the money for a class? I HATE THE GRE...sorry i didnt know who to complain to besides my own community
  22. good to know that we have a chance
  23. ill be applying straight from undergrad if it makes you feel any better lol
