  1. I am sorry to hear about the outcome of your application. The IRDF scholarship is given (according to their definition) to applicants whose application were worth for NSERC PDF award but NSERC did not have enough funds to support for PDF. However, I hope some one in this forum have better answer for your question. I am wondering which field of study were you pusuing during your PhD study?
  2. Its either highly competetive or its poorly funded by the government. It seems to me that it is due to the second reason why you were not selected.
  3. Lets hope that our mail arrives on Tuesday! Its a long wait though. Thanks for the update. Same here in BC. No mail from NSERC today.
  4. No letter has yet arrived from NSERC today in BC. Its a long wait... for PDF applicants.
  5. I am exactly as confident of my application for PDF as you were for your PGS-D application, for the similar reasons cited. Best wishes and good luck with your further research work.
  6. Reply from my university about NSERC PDF. Hi XX, Unfortunately we do not have any news on NSERC PDFs. According to our Graduate Awards Manager, there have been some delays with the NSERC PDF and we don’t have much information beyond that. NSERC will be notifying you directly, and questions should be directed to them. Best regards, XX
  7. I sent an email yesterday to a staff at our institute who adminsters NSERC award holders and asked if she can see the results of NSERC PDF applicants. I have not heard any thing yet. I mentioned that I applied independently of our institute. However, the results of PGS/CGS are already arrived in UBC.
  8. Sounds good. I will definitely talk to the prospective supervisor before I actually decide to work with him or her. In my PhD I did not do much research and for that reason, end up working with a supervisor who would not spend a penny unless the research work leads to manufacturing a device. Not all research carried out in the university setting results in making an actual device!
  9. At one point, I was going to send an email but then decided not to send it anyway. Not really sure if they can actually pass onto this information to us or not?
  10. I was actually expecting a support of something like 10 to 15K atleast on top of my intended NSERC Postdoc research. 2-5 K top-up is not very encouraging. Thanks for the information.
  11. One of the professors in the US had told me (few months ago) that he can top-up upto 2 thousands in the first year and up to 5 thousands in the second year, which is too low. But he was also telling that he has to check it with his adminstrative staff and ask her how much he can top-up to postdocs. Not sure how actually it works. Thanks for the information.
  12. PGS-D2 is for two years and PGS-D3 is for three years. I guess you already had PGS in your master. One can get a maximum of total 4 years of PGS award (master+doctoral). Congratulations.
  13. I am waiting for the NSERC PDF result. If successful, I am planning to take it to the US University, at least for the Postdoc period. Does anyone here know about the top-up from the US universities or their supervisors? It’s good to know that some of us in this forum have already started receiving PGS/CGS or Vanier awards. Congratulations to all those successful candidates and for those who could not make it this year, please hope you can make it to the next year. Please remember that success develop from failures. No PDF letter has arrived in BC yet.
  14. I guess you can start your PDF until January 13, 2013.
  15. No letter has arrived today in BC. Thanks.
  16. I am truly shocked. I had never seen a paper with so many authors.
  17. I agree that journal papers alone are never a criteria (forget about the conference presentaitons, these days people present the same work again and again in many different conferences, and if thats the case, list of many same conference presentations can carry negative points during evaluation) for the selection. Your one page proposal is very important. Good luck.
  18. Can you take postdoc offer with the NSERC award? Just wanted to confirm. It looks like you have to give one to take other. Not sure how much you know about it?
  19. I worked in the area of phtonics in my earlier part of PhD.
