  1. Bahaha, I agree. But with that said - I'm too scared. Lame, I know...
  2. Poor Norway! You guys will be tomorrow - I can feel it!
  3. You'll be fine. When it's right it always is. I'm married now, but when we were dating - my husband (then boyfriend) did 1.5 years apart. If I'm lucky enough to get this grant, we're unsure if he'll be able to join me even now (jobs, house, four-legged fur child, etc...). If you're both comfortable with the situation (and it sounds like you are) and you give yourselves no choice other then to make it - it will all work out. Visit each other, schedule regular times to skype, email everyday... It's hard because you'll miss each other terribly, but if you truly invest the effort, you'll come out the other side together. Aww - so cute and romantic :-). I'm happy you get to have this opportunity!!
  4. Congrats all who received good news today! So so SO exciting!!!
  5. I'm sorry - I know that's not the answer you wanted. It's totally frustrating... For the stats check the 12-13 spreadsheet; it contains that information.
  6. I'm sorry :-/
  7. So so true... I've managed to enforce a "you only get to check your school email once a day" policy with myself. So, I'm just going to try to settle myself internally to be ok with the results no matter what before even opening my inbox... Unfortunately I made the poor decision to put all of my dissertation eggs in this basket donuts not so easy *stomach turns*
  8. What's with the Western Hemisphere notification drought?
  9. YES!!!
  10. You know - I feel the same way. It' certainly going to be a rush of emotion both ways...
  11. Shouldn't be too far off now... SSA notified (they don't have commissions) and Russia heard... It would be my guess that budgets are being finalized and it shouldn't be too much longer for you :-) hopefully.
  12. Yay Russia!! Keep the acceptances coming, Fulbright!
  13. That is loveably obsessive. I'm going to do the same thing in my very next moment of free time.
  14. Thanks! And congrats!
  15. Bummer... I'm sorry to hear that... I've heard that SSA is super competitive...
  16. Question for those who have heard: In the subject line of your emails, did it tell you your status? For example, last year in the subject line they put something like, "Status of your fulbright application" and then after in parentheses had one of the three following letters: P (Principle), A (Alternate), and NS (Not Selected). So... you know where you stood before even opening the email (which is both good and bad). Just wondering how it works this year...
  17. Congrats to the SSA and Spain applicants who found out today!! And condolences to those who didn't get the news they wanted... On another note: Could this be a sign that selections for those of us who also applied to regions with more tenuous funding situations are soon to follow? **fingers crossed** Also, I'm interested to see if the number of SSA full awards changed from last year to this one... Perhaps that could provide some insight as to how the sequester is actually playing out...
  18. I'm sorry to hear about your alternate status... I so know how bad that sucks... bummer...
  19. Here is the link to a page where you can see if your country has a Fulbright commission. The majority of us applying to small countries are SOL... Boo!! http://eca.state.gov/fulbright/about-fulbright/funding-and-administration/fulbright-commissions Ok - so I looked through the list of countries with foreign commissions (or at least those in the Western Hemisphere) and compared them to the notification spreadsheet. Unfortunately, it looks like only those with Fulbright committees abroad have been notified. So, it would seem to me that vPersie/tend0n's speculations are more than likely, correct. I guess we'll just have to be patient and see where the chips *ahem. dollers* fall.
  20. I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I spent 8 weeks doing a pilot study, validating my instruments, getting IRB approval from the DR, and setting up affiliations. However, everyone at my university seemed to think this was a good thing... It would seem that if this were to influence our application status, it would be something that would have already happened in the first round on the US side of things... At this point, it seems like the amount of time we put into preliminary fieldwork would be beneficial in the form of creating culturally competent projects with community buy-in from our locations of choice... Seems like something foreign commissions might like. Oh - and please no more ventures into Crazyland... " this is just one more day where we're still in the running and hope is still alive..." a very wise Fulbright applicant toldme that once ;-)
  21. Good to know at least some of us could have news soon. It's been shaping up to be a long, dry week... Hope it's Fulbrights for all!!
  22. CA/Caribbean people: this is what the person who contacted IIE got in response. Once again - many thanks for your bravery! I was way too chicken :-) At this point I'm really just on this board to cheer other people on and celebrate their good news. It doesn't seem like our region will find out for a long time - might as well get comfy sitting tight!
  23. Sure sure... But after you get accepted (hopefully soon) you're going to show up at church looking all hot and energized and everyone will just know why. No explanation necessary!
  24. So this has nothing to do with Fulbright buuuut - I got the ok from my advisor to defend my dissertation prospectus!! Now all I need to do is pass and get funding to do my project!!
  25. That happened to me once... Only it wasn't just the internet - it was the power too. We all got to leave and work from home... Best. Day. Ever.
