^ Congrats! I would go with RISD! -
^ Agreed. Pratt has a well regarded design program and it's in NYC. There's a lot you could do with just these two assets.

lol alright! I'm definitely going with CMU if I manage to raise the funds. I was just momentarily distracted by Pratt's location in NYC. -
^ I would pick Pratt personally. SAIC as a whole is the better school but go with the one that has the better program.

This makes me feel much better about my decision! Thanks so much! Congrats on all your acceptances (with funding no less!) CMU only gives assistantships and that hardly makes a dent in my total cost of attendance. -
^ Thanks! And that's so true. I was perfectly happy with CMU but this acceptance from Pratt has suddenly made NYC really attractive. CMU was my top choice for a variety of reasons though and I do like the fact that I would be in a university where I will be able to take courses from the drama, business and engineering schools! But yes, the charm of being in an art school in the middle of Manhattan is alarmingly potent.

Thanks! And best of luck!
-
^ Thanks! Tough decision ahead but I think I'm gonna go with CMU.

It is! I prefer CMU in all things but the location. I have always wanted to live in NYC (like every other outsider ) but I guess I could move there after I graduate. Both the programs are fundamentally visual communication and CMU is ranked #1 for it while Pratt didn't even make the top 10 this year. Even with graphic design- which makes for a huge part of the program- CMU is #4 on the US News ranking (just behind RISD, Yale and MICA) and Pratt again fails to make the top 10. Oh well. I guess my dreams of living in Manhattan will have to wait. -
Anyone got any financial aid from calarts before?
Babar_Suleman replied to creamypencil's topic in Visual
Why are art/design schools so miserly with financial aid? :x -
I can officially say that prolonged silence is a good thing. I submitted my apps to Pratt and Carnegie Mellon on January 5 and 15 respectively. I received acceptances from both this very week. That's TWO months later.

l'artist, are you from the US? And would you choose Carnegie Mellon or Pratt? And why? I'm from Pakistan so I don't have the native advantage in knowing which one's better. -

Thanks! I got accepted to their communication design program. It's housed in their Manhattan campus. -
Calarts has the ranking and financial aid benefits. SVA has the location advantage as its in NYC. Go for what's more important to you.

OMG! I just got accepted to Pratt for their MS in Communication Design program! I'm already accepted to Carnegie Mellon (and I absolutely love their CPID program) but Pratt is in frickin' Manhattan inside New York City! Any thoughts on this guys? This has made my decision a lot more trickier! Don't lose hope you guys. I received both my acceptances within the last 7 days. Clearly they are still sending out acceptances! Congratulations to everyone else who got accepted! -
22 when I started my applications for this year but will be entering the class at 23.

Don't get it. Couldn't you instead go for an ice cream or something?

The communication planning and information design program at CMU and, yes, the communication design program at Pratt. These two are more similar than the ID program is to Pratt's commD. The CPID program at CMU has a strong focus on graphic design and will probably feature web design too. I'm not sure about the ID program being the right fit for graphic/web designers.

lol at The Voice reference! It's suddenly made me wish I was a singer and that I could audition for Christina Aguilera and that she'd pick me. #hugefan On topic: RISD and Pratt are being terribly lazy. -
Still haven't heard from 5 grad schools...

Did Carnegie Mellon give you a date? Like by when you should be expecting a decision? I applied to their College of Fine Arts with a decision date of March 15 by the latest and only received my acceptance March 14. If they quoted March 30 or a date in April to you, you could still be hearing from them. Otherwise, go ahead and contact them. -
Stanford is Stanford. I don't think 'joke degree' would ever be the right adjective.
-
^ Don't jinx it! Maybe it's your lucky day and you're going to get an acceptance from Columbia too!
-
Were you called for interview already?! Where is my letter, Pratt? *angry* I want to get accepted with funding to Pratt so I can use it as a negotiating tool with my top choice.
