  1. They seem to be cruel. I hope you ll do better next time and you will have a good birthday gift.
  2. The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) program will ensure UBC's best PhD students are provided with financial support of at least $16,000 per year plus tuition for the first four years of their PhD studies. This program allows UBC to continue to attract and support outstanding domestic and international PhD students, and provide those students with stable, base-level funding for the first four years of their PhD studies and research. Annual Value: $18,000 stipend (effective May 1, 2012) plus full tuition coverage Award Status: Active Deadline: Check with prospective graduate program. http://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/four-year-doctoral-fellowship-4yf It can be prolonged! so 18.000 CAD plus full tuition coverage is wonderful. If there will be TAship you may earn 10K CAD more and this is wonderful. I will also apply for UBC's PhD next year, although I got my MA degree from there, I went to Brussels for PhD but I am not happy here, UBC was a wonderful place.
  3. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Uppsala, it is always cold. Social life is very limited because of that.
  4. I agree with you it is not Xenophobia but he is also right because the universities say that they have an international aura but they do not review the files of domestic and international students together. there is no equality. I do not agree with you that being metropolitan city does not mean that there is no Xenophobia. You should read about toleration theories...
  5. What does your heart tell you? I think it tells you your favorite school. You can get more funding after going there.
  6. There must be some criterias in the process deciding. My main criteria is the reputation of the university. For instance, if I got an admission offer from UBC, I would choose it because it is one of the top 50 universities in the World. But, if I get an admission offer from UCLA, I would choose UCLA because it is even better than UBC. On the other hand, my second criteria would be the city. If it is a very cold place I would never choose it since social life is also very important. I would never go to Montreal, Toronto or Boston (Even Harvard) but I do not hasitate to go Vancouver, Los Angeles, San Fransisco or San Diego. I mean the place where you live is very important. The best place in Canada, for instance, is Vancouver since it is much warmer than other cities in the country and it has a wonderful environment. I hope this can help you.
  7. Oh my God! You got an admission letter from UBC? Congratulations, I obtained my MA degree from there, funding opportunities are very generous, If I were you I would never hesitate. You can get many intensive funding after first year. Which program did you apply for?
