  1. Honestly, the program that responded to me promptly (and responded to emails!) left a much better impression on me. Keeping applicants in the dark for months and not answering emails just seems kind of snobby, it's better to make students feel like you'd care if they came to your school.
  2. I'm an American student, and my first choice right now is the Contemporary program at Edinburgh because it's specifically tailored for modern and contemporary interests and has a built-in internship option. But what do you want to do? That makes a world of difference as for what schools are a better fit.
  3. I just got waitlisted today and while I've been accepted elsewhere I don't have funding information yet. I'm having trouble deciding if I should wait and see or if I should just withdraw from the waitlist. It's logical to assume that they've already given out most of the aid and scholarships to the people who got first-round acceptances, right? So I have little to no chance of getting any. Will they bump someone else onto the waitlist if I go off, or will it not really benefit anyone? It seems like the place where I already have an acceptance has a better chance of being financially feasible, and the programs are similar in length and method so it just comes down to cost.... I guess I just don't want to "give up," even though more waiting is a drag.
  4. That's really awesome! I applied for the Smithsonian American Art Museum last summer and apparently made it to the last cut before the final decision, so I'm trying again this year. DC is a great city, seriously huge variety of resources for just about any interest, so I hope it's beneficial for you and you have tons of fun! But I've also interned in Baltimore and unfortunately the trains are a little slow and the busses are... well... not even on a schedule at all from my experience, so you might end up late a few times if you try to live there. However (shameless plug) you would be in easy reach of the Walters Art Museum while in DC, which is SO worth a visit.
  5. -Applying to very low acceptance rate programs with an application fee that I'm not 100% sure I'd pick (the stress of a blow to your ego with the waiting game, and no real reward) -Talking too much about my experiences in my SOP, and not enough about what I want to do (they have your CV, blockhead! sigh.) -Researching professors rather than just programs. I might have discovered some places I was really on board with, whereas the initial shine of some programs I've applied to has worn off when I look past what they -say- they offer and see what they actually -do- in terms of hiring faculty. It was my first time around though, not a total bust, but I could have saved a few application fees.
  6. Awesome! I'm not sure if I want to do student housing or just rent on my own because I do have someone I could split rent with. I also had to get a visa during undergrad, for a semester in Italy, which was annoying because the local consulate was so disorganized, so hopefully working with the UK will go a little better. My goals for this program would be to get an internship or a work placement for experience while also producing a publishable paper. Edinburgh is one of the few contemporary-focused Masters programs that incorporate an internship element alongside research and writing which is what makes it so appeaing.
  7. I guess I'll just bump this thread for the next round of acceptances... Hi! I was accepted at Edinburgh recently for their Modern and Contemporary Art MSc program, and it sounds really exciting and like exactly what I need to spend the next year doing. I've applied to all the scholarships I can find, and Edinburgh is essentially my first choice unless I get some crazy funding offer I can't refuse from Georgetown or SAIC. Also, I'm going to the information session in DC this weekend! Anyone else accepted for fall 2013 on here?
  8. I applied for a few programs in the UK (I'm from the US myself) and while the US programs I applied to decide funding based on your application, with no separate forms required, the ones I applied to in the UK encouraged me to apply through online forms to 3-4 other scholarships. While they were certainly not shabby, and would cover 50-90% of my tuition if I get them, they are, of course, not a sure thing, so I'm looking for more in the meantime. Are these the only opportunitues? Has anyone who's been through applying internationally had luck with getting these sort of scholarships?
  9. I'm so glad I'm not alone, or at least not having too strange a reaction to waiting. I'm also feeling completely stumped on my own (admittedly undergrad) thesis topic, and even being accepted at one of my top choices isn't good enough, since I won't hear back on whether I get funding for a while longer... My friend withdrew all her applications and started looking for a long-term job... I can appreciate how freeing that would be right about now, being stuck looking at summer jobs and internships only. I feel like I can't just make the jump to getting on with my "real life" until I can make a decision. "It's like my life is buffering" sums it up, I think.
