Mine, too. Last year I made it to their waiting list and this year it says unsuccessful.
Frustrating. I have an A- average. Did stats, research and a research apprenticeship. I got 92% on my thesis. Majored in social development studies. Have 20+ years working for welfare, employment insurance, as an advocate for injured workers, as an employment counsellor, and as a special needs educator. If it's not enough for them, I'm not sure what is. I wonder if my age is a barrier.
This is my 2nd year applying and 2nd year not accepted. I won't be applying again. Clearly, I don't have what they want and I'm not sure what else I can do.

For some reason, I don't believe York's update. They've been claiming that they would be releasing decisions since end of March, so I would not be surprised if first round offers were not made today.
That was me tweeting (bookluver1965). I'm not overly confident either that we're going to hear soon.My experience last year was that no matter who you asked at York or whenever you asked, they were always "just" about to send the results out. Last year, it wasn't until late-May that I was notified I was on the waiting list. I think my status was updated on MyFile sometime in August.

Hmmm. Got on the waiting list at U of T. Not exactly the answer I wanted, but at least they're quick at getting out results.

Congrats to everyone who has received an offer! To the rest of us waiting for U of T decisions - don't despair. It sounds as if all decisions have gone out in the mail. Not hearing back today doesn't mean we didn't get in. We'll probably be out of our misery within the next day or two.
Past experience with York suggests it'll probably be another 2 or 3 weeks before we find out from them.

Probably like most in my position, the waiting game is torture. So far, no acceptances for me and one waitlist. I'm still waiting on Ryerson. I can't do this game anymore! I'd rather just give up now and say I didn't get in so that I can just move onwards and follow another plan, be it finding a job or whatever. But I feel like a fool everyday checking my emails, RAMSS, mailbox, and calling the department that doesn't pick up the phone. I'm seriously fine with being rejected, but then at least ill know the waiting is over!
Don't give up. I know it's easier said than done but try not to stress too much over it. You will find out in due course. I was obsessive with checking last year, sometimes several times a day. This year, I'm trying not to let it control me. We've all made it this far which shows that we have the spirit of social work within us. No matter where our career path takes us, I'm confident that we're all going to make positive changes in the world, both big and small

I guess U of T really is waiting until April 15th to send out their acceptances...I was hoping that April 15th would be the last day and that all first round offers would have been out by then, but I guess not :T
My experience from applying last year, is that the schools never send the acceptances out when they say they will. Just wanted to give you a heads up, so you're not too worried if you don't hear back next week. York, for example, has a stock response when anyone calls (whenever they call) ... it's always 2 weeks from whenever. I didn't find out from York until end of May last year.

Laurie, it is so nice to see you back on here! (yes, you have me beat with the age!) I remember reading about the terrible wait you went through with York last year. Did you go with the BSW program this year? Have you applied to the same schools for the MSW this year?
I'm so happy to see you'll be attending U of T in the fall. Congrats! Last year I applied to the 2-year MSW program at York only and this year I've applied at both York and U of T. I got accepted into U of W's distance ed BSW program last year but deferred it for a year to give another try for an MSW. So far, the application process has gone smoother although I'm trying not to be too obsessive with checking MyFile and the U of T page. After the lengthy wait last year for York applicants, I'm prepared not to hear anything before the end of May.

Off topic, but how old is everyone here? I'm going to be 32 when I start my MSW and I have a feeling that I will be much older than most of my classmates.
I think I may have you all beat ... If I get in this year, I'll be nearly 48 years old. Meaning I'll be almost 50 when I graduate *sigh*

Although MyFile at York changed to "reviewed-unsuccessful" and I subsequently received a form letter in the mail saying pretty much the same thing, I e-mailed the School of Social Work and asked for confirmation. After all, they had previously told me that I was on the waiting list. They promptly replied and told me that my application was not successful, etc. A week later? I get another e-mail saying no, actually it appears that I am on the waiting list.
Really these people should give up on Social Work and go into drama. They'd be great at writing farce.

I've been lurking on here for awhile, but thought I'd chime in. I was waitlisted for both the Toronto and York 2 Year MSWs, and today my myfile status for York changed to "Reviewed - unsuccessful". Not sure of this means I'm now off the waitlist and officially rejected. Anyways, it's ultimately ok, as I've been looking forward to the next application season and 2013 for a few months now (trying to be realistically hopeful, without getting my hopes up too high). Still on Toronto's waitlist, though.
Yes, mine has changed as well to "reviewed-unsuccessful." Not entirely sure what to make of that. The e-mail I received had said I would be informed by mail.

Hi diy88! Glad you found the group and thanks for sharing the info. I received an e-mail on May 15 to say I was waitlisted for York's 2-yr MSW, although the e-mail arrived after I contacted them first. Based on past posts on this group page, there is no consistency in how York is letting people know if they are not accepted or waitlisted. Also, as a lot of us have found out, the Admissions department has absolutely no clue what is going on with the Social Work department and they seem to provide random answers that have no basis in fact.
I'd sincerely like to hope that we'll find out something by the end of the week. Although, my experience with York is that they've been saying something similar since the end of April, so - not to sound overly negative - don't get your hopes up that they'll keep that promise. Having said all this, however, I do believe that York's social work program is an excellent program (for those who manage to get through the crazy application process) so I'm keeping my fingers (and everything else) crossed that we'll both get good news soon

So everyone keeps mentioning stats courses, I was just wondering what are some of the better stats courses that people have taken? and are any offered online as opposed to in-class?
I took my stats course on-line from University of Waterloo. It was definitely a challenging course, but the exam was open-book so that helped. You can take it online but you write the final exam at a supervised exam centre (or, you get a proctor). For me, success came from learning which formulas to use for what type of question but also (as it was open-book) to organize the text book really well with tabs and highlights so that you can find the correct formula quickly. I don't know if all schools have open book exams for stats (or even if U of Waterloo still does it that way). I took it a long time ago.

Thanks Nala, for the update! Was the orientation just for people registered in the 2-year MSW? I'm wondering if you got an idea of how many people have already accepted (i.e., did it look like a full class)?

I just checked Myfile and my status is reviewed-unsuccessful. At least York finally got it together and are starting to let people know!
Sorry to hear kk12345 and KA2012. It's too bad that it took so long to let people know. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

I just got off the phone with York, I figured for sure they'd know by know, but the office of admissions said they haven't even made all their decisions yet. I'm still in shock.
DON'T listen to a word admissions tells you. They don't have A CLUE what's going on. Three people in admissions told me that my application will not even be looked at until I produce another transcript showing I've already graduated. They don't know how to provide the most basic information on the application process -- I wouldn't trust them to give you a correct answer.
While admissions tells me that my application isn't even being reviewed, Kathleen Lidbetter Lawrence, Graduate Program Assistant with the department of Social Work e-mails to say I'm on the waiting list for the 2-year MSW.
If you want an answer, e-mail the department directly. You might as well bash your head against the wall a few times, than talk to admissions. You'll end up with the same result either way -- a massive headache.

ALTHOUGH I was talking to a recent MSW York grad the other day, and she said that she was waitlisted and didn't her back from York until about 4 weeks before classes were scheduled to start!!!!
I nearly crapped myself when I heard this.
At this stage I can only assume that York is trying to discourage MSW hopefuls with this prolonged waiting game?
The wait list e-mail I received from York said that, in the past, people have been accepted off the wait list as late as August. People could drop out of the program at the last minute, I guess, if they get accepted off a waiting list elsewhere. By the way, my status on MyFile never changed to indicate I am on a waiting list. My experience with Admissions at York is that they have no clue what the School of Social Work is doing anyway, so I wouldn't count on it ever changing.

The lady said that their goal is to inform all students within the next two weeks. And, she knows that they've been saying that for awhile, but they got 500 applications for 20 spots and they moved and their short staffed. Basically a whole bunch of things we already knew.
Ah yes. Two weeks is their catch phrase. They said that back at the end of April.

Anybody else hear back about the waiting list for York's 2-year MSW? I got the e-mail the day after I wrote them asking about my status. Maybe e-mailing them is the the way to get a status update ... still no change on MyFile, though.

I'm still at "No decision Yet" status.
My status on MyFile hasn't changed even though I got the waitlist e-mail yesterday. Don't give up. The e-mail I got was from a Graduate Program Assistant and it's possible the work of advising people has been divided up between different employees. The e-mail was just sent out yesterday afternoon, so hopefully more people will be informed today.

Sorry, had to rant, I'm losing my mind...
Rant away; we understand! I almost wish that I had been rejected and not waitlisted because at least then I could stop hoping. At this point and with the limited number of admissions, I think the waitlist is a long shot. But without knowing how many people are on the list, and not knowing where my position is ... I'm still in limbo.
I really hope you hear back soon. The waiting really does suck.

Good to know York is finally getting info out. I received an e-mail this afternoon saying I'm on the waiting list. They can't (or won't) say what spot on the waiting list, though, So, in other words, it'll likely be another 3 or 4 months of waiting to get a final decision.

Funny you said that. My son and his girlfriend are both York students and they said the only way to get answers is to go in personAh man. So you're not from KW! I miss living there
I now live in Newmarket (decided to move back home for school). I work in Toronto though on weekends. We could probably meet up. I wonder what York would do if you just showed up in person with all your documents from them and emails printed out saying that they had everything they needed???Nothing like making an argument and having solid evidence in your hands!

Thanks for the kind words! Maybe I will get off the wait list for U of T. But I have been admitted to U of Waterloo's part-time BSW program to start this fall. And that may very well be the best - although longer - path for me. It'll give me more time to save up money in order to take time off to go back full-time to get my MSW. I guess getting into the advanced program will be easier as they seem to accept more applicants.
And I have a consolation prize! I'd already determined that if I don't get into a full-time MSW program this fall, I'll be taking a trip to England in the fall. England is one of my favourite places in the world and I haven't been in 19 years. Something to look forward to!
Congrats to all those who have been accepted. Judging by the posts on this site, I know you're all going to be spectacular social workers and will make the world a better place for us all
