  1. First of all, congrats on your acceptance to all these great schools! And Yale! Fantastic! Secondly, we used to travel all the time with our kitty (she passed away a few years ago), and after she got settled in, we often let her out of the carrier and she slept and purred on my lap (my hubby was driving). She would only meow when we were about 15 minutes from our destination (after a 1,000 mile trip!), she somehow felt we were getting close. Of course, ABSOLUTELY do NOT open the car doors until kitty is in her harness or carrier (Or both!). And letting kitty out may not work for you, but for us, she loved it, and she was totally calm and zen. Which meant we loved it, too!
  2. I just finished my master's a few weeks ago, and am starting a PhD in communications the end of August. My future DA (even though my master's was at a different school) was one of my informal readers for my thesis, so we already have been meeting on a fairly regular basis. I have 21 credits of electives in the first two years of coursework and want to make the most of it - my diss. will likely be in the field of social media and health communication so I have been researching classes that would fill gaps I have - particularly in the social and behavioral health PhD departments and the psychology departments. I am spending much of summer reading up on the field (who has researched what in social media and health comm.?) and will be meeting with my DA next week to discuss my class schedule, what courses to take when, and what admin overrides I will need (and he has offered to help with). I figure the first semester will be pretty intense, so I want to do my familiarizing with the field now .
  3. fuzzylogician, thank you so much - I had no idea that was an option (like I said, newbie).
  4. A newbie here... just graduated with my master's a few weeks back, and I submitted a 30 page paper based on my 150 page thesis to a conference. Just found out it was accepted and I am presenting for 15 min. One of the peer reviewers had some significant suggestions for changes and I would like to incorporate them, but the due date for edits and modifications is in four days. I'm entering a PhD program this fall, my new school is paying for me to attend the conference and is very supportive, but everyone in my new department is in tenure reviews right now... and not available to help. What do I do? Attempt to incorporate the changes at the risk of not being done in time, or leave as is? Anyone here experience in this area?
