hey everyone! hope everyone is hanging in there! does anyone know if footnotes and/or endnotes count in page lengths? I have some pretty chunky footnotes and am wondering if the space they will take up will count in my page limit. haven't found any specific guidelines on this. thanks!!

MA ranking matter?
sunshan replied to nokingofengland's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
on this topic, are there any MA programs similar to Georgetown's or Villanova's that people recommend? Those both look unique and great...and seem to offer really supportive environments! -

Anyone else gearing up for Oct. 13?

Oh me neither. I must have left at least 50 blank. That 2 hours and 50 minutes went by SO quickly -

Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants
sunshan replied to harvardlonghorn's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
This is SO ME as well! Some days, after meeting with really encouraging professors, I'm like "YAY I totally want to be a literary scholar," and then other days, I'll be working on my WS and not be able to string two sentences together! Also, a totally random, unrelated question: Are people putting their language strengths in their SOP? Where do those show up? I have taken a French lit class and can speak French well, but I don't want to just arbitrarily stick it somewhere in my SOP... -

I also love Columbia's statement about the Lit GRE...it's something like, "We do not feel the GRE is an adequate representation of your abilities as a literary scholar" or something...I read that whenever I am feeling downtrodden about this darn test! -
Extracurriculars on CV
sunshan replied to elementarie's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I guess as we're on the topic of the CV, I'm unclear as to exactly what to put on my CV? I'm just a senior in college (undergrad), so it's not like I've had any publications or anything like that to speak of. I've done a few journalism and PR internships, as well as a teaching internship. Are these CVs supposed to look like the resumes of our friends who are seeking jobs in the "real" world? Thanks! -
Hi, everyone! I'm just reading about various professors at different English PhD programs and figuring out which ones to list in my Statement of Purpose as profs I'm interested in working with. I was wondering, should I list only full professors or associate professors? Not assistant professors, right? Also, how many professors should I list in each of my statements of purpose? Thanks!

I would personally love help from experienced SoP writers -- I'd particularly love to read examples! I know there's a really specific way to do it. If anyone's willing to share theirs, please let me know! Thank you so much! Also, I have no idea what I'm doing, but for style and whatnot, I'm happy to read anyone elses!

Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants
sunshan replied to harvardlonghorn's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Hi, everyone! Does anyone know when we can register for the English GRE in October or November? The GRE website isn't letting me register, but I want to have a plan, haha. Also, anyone else taking it this fall? -
Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants

Hi everyone! So glad someone made this post for our year! I'm a Victorianist looking mostly at East Coast/Midwest Schools. Also interested in critical theory, comparative arts, gender/sexuality studies. So glad to find other people who are doing this too...my school mostly churns out pre-meds and future CEO's, so I am glad to find a community of other hopeful academics.
