  1. Hah, your decision was basically the same as mine, except I'm applying for straight political science and my funding was equal for both. I ended up deciding on Calgary, if that helps, because from talking to my potential supervisor, there were a lot more opportunities to go to conferences and work on publications at Calgary so it was a no-brainer for me. You should call the department and ask about that kind of thing?
  2. Rejected from McGill - oh well, the only rejection this cycle, 5/6 isn't bad! I've already accepted the offer from my top choice so I wasn't upset. I can't believe I'm done, no more waiting!
  3. Well since my undergrad is from McMaster, I'm highly inclined to suggest it (of course, I'm heavily biased! )..rent is pretty cheap in Hamilton though and it's a nice campus.
  4. I didn't apply, Carleton sent me an email recommending I apply after I put in my application, but they would have required a second set of references from professors who already wrote me 6 letters (and I know one of them has over 150 letters to write this cycle!), so I didn't want to ask them. Good luck to those applying!!
  5. My status still says recommended for assessment - but the graduate supervisor says my official offer will come within 2 weeks so I'm assuming that's when they'll change status!
  6. Got email acceptance from MA Political Science at Carleton today - my status was recommended for assessment before that.
  7. A lot of applicants (like myself) have high grades but no experience. Maybe they will balance out I also applied to Carleton's MA in Poli Sci and the department said I should be hearing from them soon. What does your status say?
  8. Oh gosh, I hope I don't get any phone calls! I'm socially inept on the phone - and I never answer it anyway for that reason so will most likely miss the call! Email me instead, please
  9. I figured as much, mine's been recommended for assessment for a good few weeks - was a nice thought while it lasted though!
  10. I didn't check for awhile and mine says recommended for assessment as well. Not sure what it said before that!
  11. I've heard nothing from my schools either
  12. I've heard nothing yet but I'm applying for MA programs, so I may be waiting a while yet
  13. 21, but I turn 22 at the beginning of March (right when the results search says I should be hearing from schools - an acceptance on my birthday would be great!)
  14. I'm getting my recommenders a thank you card and a nice box of chocolates, but I don't know when to give it to them! Do I give it to them now or do I wait until the end of the cycle? I'd be able to write a better letter at the end of the cycle, and I'm enrolled in 2 courses with one of them this semester so I thought giving him a gift might be a bit unethical, but then I don't want them to think I forgot about them!
  15. I do have outside support, so I think I will say no. Thanks for the response!
  16. Hi all, I am applying to Canadian MA programs this cycle, and I have my applications pretty much ready to go, but I'm struggling to decide how to answer the "do you wish to be considered for entrance scholarships/fellowships" question on some applications. I'm very grateful to have my studies paid for, and I really want available funding to go to students who need it more then I do. However, I was wondering how my answer to this question would affect my application. Will the department think "oh good, a free student/extra income" or will they look at it negatively, as if I'm ungrateful for their offering funding or something? How will this affect my chances at future Ph.D. applications, if I have less grade-based scholarships on my transcript then other students? I've been getting mixed responses to this, and thought this forum would be a good place for some advice! Thanks in advance!
