Georgetown doesn't offer graduate student housing, but options are ample in the neighborhood proper. A good number of my classmates live in Burleith/Georgetown/Glover Park, and a sizeable number live in Dupont, where campus is a simple GUTS shuttle away. Price-wise, they pretty much run the gamut from around $800 to $1800/month for both the Georgetown-adjacent as well as Dupont neighborhoods. You can certainly find something within your budget if you look hard enough. There is some space for parking personal vehicles on campus, but that's expensive and I wouldn't advise it. It works in a pinch though. You can easily rent a parking spot for around $200-$300 a month from folks who've rented townhouses in the area.

If you're interested in gender policy, you might want to check out the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security. I believe they offer a class under MSFS. There are also several other opportunities for women leadership such as GWIA (Georgetown Women in International Affairs).

Hi spartuckeye, First -- congratulations! To answer your questions, you will be given a chance to test out of IR and stats during orientation in the fall, and you'll also be able to submit your undergrad international trade syllabi to the economics department to get a waiver from that class, so I wouldn't worry too much there. Many people end up testing out of at least one core class. I would say MSFS is very practice-oriented. Professors are encouraged, for example, to stay away from assigning massive 20-page term papers and assign more memos to prepare you for the policymaking world. We also have a wealth of classes focused on hard skills such as quantitative decision making, corporate finance, GIS, etc. Additionally, if you can't find the sorts of financial budgeting/management classes you want within MSFS, you'll have the opportunity to take these classes from any other department in Georgetown. Between the GHD, MPP, or MBA programs, you'll definitely find something that fits your practical needs. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me for my e-mail address if you'd like to chat more.

For what it's worth, a couple of my classmates in MSFS were able to hold onto part time jobs while doing a full course load last semester. It's not normally advised, and will definitely hurt, but depending on how well you manage your time, it's certainly doable.

I was very impressed by the MSFS open house. The faculty were pretty forthright with answering questions, especially when we split up to talk about concentrations. The emphasis on the strengths of career services was fantastic too. I'm not sure about the rest of the attendees, but I personally enjoyed the one part of the open house where we went around the room and individually introduced ourselves - that really drove home the point that the class of 2015 had been very carefully put together, and I remember being very impressed and intimidated by everyone else there. Line909 - you're definitely right when you talk about community. I remember coming away from the day rather pleased with how honest our student guides were when it came to assessing the pros and cons of the program, and more importantly feeling really welcomed. I liked the other admitted students with whom I spoke at the open house, and I think they'll make great classmates. I've only been to one other open house, but I was a little disappointed that we didn't get the chance to sit in on a class. Maybe given the small size of classes that would've been disruptive, but I found that to be rather helpful at the other open house I attended. Advice for Future Applicants: Get a fantastic set of writers who are willing to help with recommendation letters. Keep in touch with admissions, visit the programs if you're able to, and try to contact professors with whom you'd like to work or study under. Also start writing your SOPs very early - I must've had about 8 drafts before I was ready to submit, and even then I wasn't satisfied.

Hi The Mark, I speak with zero expertise in this matter whatsoever, but did you use the additional information section of your application to explain your GRE scores? If you did well enough in your econs classes at undergrad, it might give the admissions committees reason to believe that your GRE score was just a fluke also.
