  1. Hello all...congrats on all the acceptance letters that have been received! I was accepted to DU (The only school I applied too) and was thrilled to be going there. When I went last year I was advised that classes only was about $36,000 and that the full program (tuition, board, ins, etc) was around $55,000. Today, I received my financial aid letter and the program went to $52,488 for classes only and $76,108 for everything. With the merit scholarship, I would be taking out approx $40,000 for grad school alone. This was my only choice in school. My wife and I are super excited to start a new life in CO (living in CT now) and the program was exactly what i am looking for. I am not impressed with UCONN or Fordham and honestly want out of CT. SO, what are you willing to pay? I realize I will be in debt for the rest of my life....but, its what i want to do. Is it worth it? At this point it may be even too late to apply anywhere else.... Anyways, any thoughts are appreciated (especially the ones that tell me to just 'do it' and go with my heart). Thanks all and again, congrats! Dawn
  2. Hello...I had my first interview yesterday for my graduate internship...nerve wracking..does not help that it was over the phone as they are in CO and I am still in CT. Have another interview today with a different agency....anyone interviewed yet?
  3. I only applied to Denver University and will be headed out there in June! Cannot wait!
  4. I plan on staying in Denver for quite awhile...there is nothing in CT!!
  5. I am moving from CT, where I lived for the last 35 years, and moving to Denver for graduate school. Cannot wait to start this new chapter AWAY from CT
  6. Thanks Subie19...i did get the email but my password does not want to work for the portfolio. Guess I will be on the phones with IT later today However, I am on the facebook page so I hope to see you all on there soon!!
  7. Does anyone know what we do next? I am anxious to find a placement and get course schedules, etc. Just wondering if anyone else knows what to do...thanks!
  8. congrats Callyw!!! see you in Denver...
  9. Emily H - did you confirm acceptance yet? I am wondering how we go about getting placements being long distance. This is going to be quite anadventure..I also applaud you for passing law school up for a career in helping others!
  10. Woohoo more people heading to Denver! Any of you doing the Animal Assisted program? My wife and I are heading out there in April to look for housing...so scary to be moving cross country but exciting. I am hoping to confirm my acceptance with the $300 this week.
  11. Hi Emily..I posted the same message on my original topic but wanted to be sure you saw it...so here it is, copied and pasted: HI! I initially applied Oct 4 since I wanted to be first (yea, I am nuts like that)...then realized they did not have all my information so it was actually completed on Nov 17th. I was hoping for the 4-6 week waiting period and ended up getting my letter this week (Jan 22). So the wait was about 8 weeks...I do believe it is because of the holidays that were in between my application date. I am super excited, but moving across the country is so nerve wrecking. I am going out to Denver in April to try to find an apartment and hopefully secure my placement. If you check on the website you applied on, it will also update when the decision was made...Good Luck and keep us posted..would love to know someone when I get out there. I am also doing the animal assisted program!

  15. I applied to DU on Nov 15th...still anxiously waiting. When I spoke to admissions he said they were going through hundreds and I would know in the New Year.I have not applied anywhere else so I am waiting patiently
  16. Hello all, I applied to University of Denver on 10/5 and now the waiting begins. I received an email back saying I should hear in 4-6 weeks. It is my Plan A and I my fingers are sore from being crossed this whole time Have any of you heard back from your schools yet, or even applied? Good Luck!
  17. Hi Abbigail001...I also am only applying to one school. University of Denver. I have others that I thought of applying to but none that grab me as much as DU. I applied on 10/5 and should hear within the next 2 weeks if I am accepted. I am so scared of not getting in, but sending as much positive vibes as I can that I WILL get in! Good luck to you
  18. Hi citychild! I am currently in CT and looking to head out to denver for their MSW program (even though it costs a ridiculous $53,000 for the year). I am in a same sex marriage where my wife gets all of my benefits through my employer but same sex marriage is not legal in CO yet. It worries me to move there and start completely over but I am so excited for the process. I wish you the best...
  19. Hi...I have a problem with applying for fafsa for grad school while currently in my undergraduate. I am applying to University of Denver and they requested a fafsa during application process. When I tried to apply for fafsa it did not offer new application, only changes to existing one. I called DU to question it and they said that while in undergraduate I will have to wait till that degree is done to reapply. I was worried it would affect any scholarships I would be entitled to and they said it does not affect merit ones (I make too much now for financial need). Soooo, long story short...the schools know about the fafsa drama so I would just get your app in asap and fill out fafsa when it reopens for you. good luck all!
  20. Hello all....I am applying to UCONN, DU, Bryn Mawr and Smith. I feel like I am all over the place but I really want to move to CO and go to DU. Their application opens on Oct 1 and I plan to be one of the first (I hear you have a better chance of a higher merit scholarship the sooner you apply)...Good luck to you all!
  21. Hello...I live in CT and had gone out to look at DU in April. I absolutely fell in love with the school and the opportunity to earn a certificate in Animal Assisted Social Work. While the price of the school is extremely steep I have heard they offer merit based scholarships. I am ready to pack up my life in CT and move out to Denver if I get a great scholarship. While I don't know how much help I am to you,I just wanted to let you know I am also looking at DU. Applications open on Oct 1 and I hear you get better scholarships the sooner you apply. why not apply and see what you can get then make your decision from there...Good Luck!
  22. hi...I am in CT and heard decent things about UCONN and not so great about Southern. Sorry I could not have been of more help.
  23. hello all...I am looking to apply for my MSW schools in the late fall for admission in the summer/fall of 2013 (advanced standing). I am from CT where we have UCONN school of social work and also semi local is Fordham. Although these are great schools, I do not want to go there. I was able to visit University of Denver and fell in love with the animal assisted social work certificate along with the option of a trauma certificate. The price for that school is ridiculous, and I would have to move cross country (mind you I am 34 yrs old and married). Sooo, I am looking at other schools and my main concern is getting some sort of certificate in addition to my degree. I think I need that additional training since I am already older than most in college and want something to keep me ahead of the pack. I am now looking at Bryn Mawr in PA, still DU, Commonwealth of VA. Any advise is appreciated to help me clear this craziness going on in my head. Oh, I will be studying clinical and want to work with veterans, mental and physical illness, or hospice for children (yes, quite a variety). Thank you! Dawn
