I don't think it is if you're going to a good program in the hard sciences/engineering.

Go with your gut. Who FEELS right? You can always switch later.

I agree with BrokenRecord. Additionally, how can you ask someone to cut out the $50-100 fun budget? We need to socialize and indulge, otherwise we are unhappy and end up slacking off in other areas to compensate!

How many courses first semester?

Ask your department. There are different ideas of what constitutes a 'full load'. -

What do you wear if you are 'curvy'? I like to wear fitted clothing, but I don't want to look unprofessional. Is anybody else having this issue? -
Have you considered that maybe it was a slightly off-color joke made by someone "in the know"? Perhaps it was a professor who is out to the rest of the faculty but doesn't really make it known to students. Maybe there was an anti-gay protestor on the campus the day before that used giant cutouts of fruit to make their point, and the professor was cracking a joke at the expense of the anti-gay protestor. I think that you should bring it up to a few people and see what happens. It's easy to dig ourselves into holes of depression when we aren't interacting with others on a regular basis. What makes you think that the other institution is anti-gay? Is it a religious university? If there truly is an issue, I would just get your masters and go elsewhere for a PhD. I'm sure that even if another university weren't such a perfect fit, you would be so much happier not being actively discriminated against. Best of luck. Let us know what you decide.

This time last year - What were you doing?
quicksort replied to DeeLovely79's topic in Officially Grads
In scuba diving class, prepping for the GRE, stressing out about getting into graduate school. -
What else would I be doing? There is nothing else that could give me as much satisfaction.

haha, no...I mean, can you summarize what he thinks that women need to do differently?

Ugh, the handbag issue is so annoying. I'm still using a Le Pilage, but I don't know if that's going to be comfortable enough. I dislike all-leather bags for some reason, so I can only hope to dream of figuring out what to do. -
what are the strategies?!!

Been studying for 6 months and seeing NO improvement on verbal score
quicksort replied to shockwave's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Studying vocabulary is not an effective way to improve your verbal score because the chances of you getting one of those memorized words is very slim. Focus on the reading comprehension sections. -
When you pick one advisor over another advisor that is actively recruiting you, is it a big deal? Are 'grad school politics' a factor when you choose the advisor? I should just choose the person who is closest to my interests, right? Is there anything to watch out for when choosing advisors? I'm really nervous that I'm going to step on somebody's toes!
