Hello, So I am new to filing taxes independently. So for this 2013/2014 school year I'm on a 18k graduate fellowship and received 9k for the Fall 2013 semester. Since this is not "wages" my school did not issue me a W-2 or 1099. How do I go about filling my fellowship stipend, which I know is taxable. My father insists that the school needs to provide me with some sort of documentation, and I plan on calling the office tomorrow, however the more I google the more I see how complicated filing fellowships can be and I don't wan't to screw this up. I assume I'll have to file federal and state (Indiana) as I was given my stipend in a lump sum with no amount withheld for tax purposes. Any tips? Or does anyone know of any resources?

I mean this was last year's application thread. I'm on a MA/PhD track at Indiana if anyone has any questions.

I just moved in last weekend. Lots to explore, but haven't met anyone yet!

I took 3 and 1/2 years and decided to graduate early.

I'll be enrolling at IU this fall for a PhD in Slavic Language and Literature. I just signed a lease for a studio apartment downtown. That was easiest for me as I have a cat and finding a cat friendly place and roommate was just double the challenge. When I was looking for apartments my main requirements were close to campus, cat friendly, not full of undergrads, and not by the stadium.

Did anyone else apply to Michigan? I haven't heard from them yet. Its strange as they called me in January sounding positive and nothing

It's nerve-racking waiting to hear results. I still haven't heard from anymore schools, but I did receive my funding offer from my acceptance; it was very generous. Congrats on whoever got into Harvard.

Congrats. I still haven't heard a word from Berkeley...never mind checked the status... First rejection
-
ugh I can't wait to here from more schools.... Maybe this week.

The FLAS essay depends on the school, I've done five so far and all vary. Yeah, a school called me last night 1am my time (I'm in Moscow) it woke me up but eh, it was good news.
-
Congrats on the interview, I haven't heard from Berkeley yet, but I did receive an email and a call from two schools saying I'm at the top of the applicant pool and should apply for a FLAS ASAP. So that's somewhat hopeful

First acceptance! Now I know I'm going somewhere. Waiting to hear back from seven more. I'm only feeling a little less pressure.
