  1. I am. I would really like to hear back from them. They seemed like a great fit but this long wait is getting to me. What specialization are you looking into?
  2. Most of the schools I've yet to hear from have very little in the results search (on the order of 5 or so). Hoping they send news out soon
  3. Anyone know of a rough deadline for schools to provide a decision by? I've heard April 15th; though I'm not sure what the credibility behind that date is. Some schools seem so quick and others lack communication...
  4. Good on you! Good luck. Now, hopefully NYU will send out decisions soon!
  5. Congratulations! Best of luck to you!
  6. The theories have been confirmed guys. I was denied from PhD but am being considered for MS.
  7. So I now have a "Concentration Track Interests" section on my application page that wasn't there previously. The options it lists are all for the MS degree. So the earlier theory about being considered for MS instead of PhD may in fact be correct. Anyone else have this change?
  8. Also a valid point, +1. I would go with this unless the school says strictly 3 only.
  9. I think this depends greatly. Generally, I would say to definitely choose the professor you TA'd for, because he will speak genuinely about his experiences with you and his faith in you moving forward. However, if the machine learning professor is a world-renowned researcher, then this might give you a huge boost in your application (given he writes a decent letter that doesn't sound generic). That said, my suggestion is that unless the ML professor is a big name guy, I would go with the professor you TA'd for -- he will write a great letter for you since he knows you well and you have worked hard for him.
  10. Happened to me as well when I checked today. They may just be updating their application system, or you might be right. Hopefully they let us know soon. Good luck to all of you!
  11. When I visited another school, I met students that heard from Columbia that said there was a visit weekend, or something of the sorts, in early March. Anyone have any more information on this? I haven't seen much in the results to vouch for this. Also, in regards to NYU and NYU Poly. I believe those two programs are separate at this time, and I don't think gaining admission to NYU Poly places you into the NYU program.
  12. Seems like there's been a burst of rejections for NYU today (6 at the time I'm posting). Anyone have any information on them?
  13. I haven't heard a word from them either. So don't worry; you're not alone! I wish they would give some hint that they are actively reviewing our apps instead of the "Under Review" sign that's been on the application for the last month or more.
  14. There may be Professors who want a certain number in their group but are waiting for the initial offers to accept. If those offers decline they may want to extend an acceptance to another applicant. They wouldn't want to reject a candidate if they are a strong alternative.
  15. According to last year's results, acceptances should be going out on Friday (tomorrow) this week. I'm starting this thread if anyone has any additional information they want to share about Berkeley's EECS admissions process. It looks like a few acceptances have been posted, but not too much information is out there. Good luck to everyone!
  16. Chrome Extensions: Adblock, Adblock Plus -- you guys know what these do Google Dictionary -- highlight any word and get a popup definition Checker Plus for Gmail -- Automatically checks email, notifies you when you receive message (especially good for application decisions, interviews) Honey -- Automatically check if there is a coupon code for the site you're shopping on Magic Actions for Youtube -- automatically watch in HD and other cool options New Tabs to the Front -- switches you to new tab right away Block Site -- block sites to help with procrastination
  17. So the roundup is today, but will decisions be sent out today? Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks, and good luck to all of you!
  18. I can't say that I know for sure, but I would imagine that it is in fact for domestic students only. I'll keep you updated if I find any more information.
  19. So far interviewed with POI at UC Santa Cruz and received invite to visit weekend for interviews at Johns Hopkins. Good luck to everyone! A lot of schools seem to be rolling out their interviews and acceptances, so don't let the results search discourage you.
  20. I agree. Although the GRE's importance is up for debate, it is helpful and people like to gauge themselves against other applicants based on hard numbers. Also, it would be great if more applicants to PhD programs gave their research experience / publications in the Notes portion. Best of luck to everyone!
  21. I've also heard this, but this seems atypical, even at other top programs. Care to elaborate on how Stanford CS evaluates its applicants?
  22. First interview request!

      How exciting, congrats!

  23. dat_nerd has hit it right on the head: you have to make sure you have the pre-requisites when you apply. For an MS, they won't be too willing to let you take undergraduate courses that are often expected of incoming students, so take a look around and make sure you have those. You say you took two courses in high school and college. Whether that means 1 in high school and 1 in college or 2 in each, either way you will be at a huge disadvantage in comparison to most applicants. My suggestion is to look around at the schools you're interested in and check their prerequisites. Also, call the schools to verify these courses. After you've done that, take what you need to take and then apply. Best of luck!
