  1. Congrats
  2. Congrats!!
  3. As a precaution, I suggest checking your Junk/Spam folder in your email account, as well as doing a word search for UNC in all your received emails. Just in case.
  4. Thanks, Matt. I see you've got an offer from Arizona. Maybe we'll be meeting in person!
  5. Thank you!! This is the first bit of news I've received so far! I'm shocked.
  6. Oh my god...I just checked my spam folder and found an email from Arizona from February 10th!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm near the top of the wait list, apparently. I'm floored. I had been assuming rejection for over a week. Wow. Good thing I checked my spam folder!!!!
  7. You already have a few offers though, right?
  8. Same here. The more times goes by, though, and the more rejections posted on the results page, the more I find justification for my irrational glimmer of hope! Ah well.
  9. Anyone else not yet heard anything (no rejection, wait list, or offer) from Arizona?
  10. An evil genius kind of monster, who goes by the name, 'Professor Chaos'.
  11. Ian, this guy/girl is right ^. We can now place *more* trust in the results page, given that the false posts have been discredited.
  12. I was 99% sure the previous NYU offer-posts were fake. And I'm 100% sure this new post is genuine. It makes zero sense that NYU would suddenly start sending out offers a month earlier than they've done in all previous years.
  13. " Institution Program(Season) Decision & Date St1 Date Added Notes NYU Philosophy, PhD (F14) Other via Other on 18 Feb 2014 O 18 Feb 2014 Postings about NYU Philosophy offers were brought to our attention. These postings (or alleged offers) are false. We will not be making offers before the first week of March.
  14. Yes. http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=philosophy+arizona&t=a&o=&pp=25
  15. My last name starts with a 'C' and I've not yet heard from Arizona. But I'm pretty sure -- and by 'pretty' I mean 100% -- that everyone who applied to Arizona and who hasn't been wait listed or accepted by Arizona is going to get a rejection from them. Sad face.
  16. Mine will be coming shortly too, I assume.
  17. I'll start looking for an apartment right away.
  18. First 2014 rejection from NYU PhD program posted.
  19. Is that right? I should read the news instead of just philosophy!
  20. Oh I'm certainly not doubting that there is a ton of chance involved. That's why even an applicant whose application is strong in every single way still has to play the odds. But there is *some* logic to the process, I think, if by 'some logic' we mean that the outcomes are at least somewhat predictable and make at least some sense.
  21. While what you've said here is very sensible, it's important to note a qualification: The process of selecting the handful of applicants who stand out the most in a pool of 200+ surely *does* for the most part involve rejecting applicants because they are deemed unfit for admission. Finding the 10 who stand out the most out of 237 involves not just positively being impressed with the 10 but also finding reasons significant enough to rule out the other 227. Moreover, at some later stage of the committee's decisions, where presumably the pool has narrowed considerably from 227 to, say, a pool of 30 of the most impressive applications, narrowing the pool even further probably involves rejections based on very close scrutiny of the specific weaknesses in each application.
  22. I almost spat out my water when I read 'Mo Publications Mo Citations'.
  23. Your blog is excellent. Thanks for putting so much work into it. Makes my application season less stressful! Also, why do you think Pitt has taken about a week longer than usual to make its offers?
  24. No worries! I understand, of course. In fact, maybe I should be more concerned about anonymity! Ah well.
  25. Congrats!! You've been wait listed at both Yale and Arizona; I am, as the kids say, 'jelly'. If you don't mind me asking, what was your writing sample on?
