  1. Yea. Got to have a fun breakdown over Christmas and spent most of the time just trying to find the times that people got accepted. Which is really funny since half my schools have Jan 1st deadlines. Trigger because i didn't see a single acceptance for my number one school on this website, all rejections. Also my gfs brother getting his first acceptance letter for engineering school didn't help....
  2. Even though I have not gotten in anywhere my girlfriend is giving me trouble because she is certain I am going to get in somewhere, and the relationship is over if I have to move. Its gonna be a fun 3 months
  3. At least I was able to get over the anxiety of thinking they didnt get my GRE scores and transcripts that I sent. Everything showed up and I have recieved confirmation that they have them, even if the website is not updated yet.
  4. So today was the cut off for most of my applications, and I got them all in earlier this week. I am going to wait a week to make sure all documents were found(since I sent in my transcripts and stuff early) however this is still nerve wracking. I am the only person I know who thinks I wont get in and am already panicking. How are the rest of you handling it? First thing I made sure of was I am not going to look at any of my written submissions, because I know that if I look at them I will find something and I will freak out about it.
  5. Its just all the other schools ask you to address research/relevent experience, why you want to enter the field, things of that nature and many of the guides that I have read say to emphasize those things. Yet this one asks for none of that. Also not a single school listed any format requirements or work lengths and it is worrysome, I ained for just over two pages double spaced. I am aiming for Doctoral programs in I-O Psychology if that might make a difference.
  6. So here is the complete list for my statement of purpose for a PHD program "A personal statement describing your special interests and professional goals. Include in your personal statement a rank-ordered list of the three faculty members with whom you most want to work." Should I give them my full Personal statement? Should I fleshout those sections even further? Any advice would be appreciated.
  7. Okay thank you, I took some jobs just to learn how their management operates, as well as learn about how the current workplace opperates, employee incentive programs and how they are working(or lack of work) and figuring out where they go wrong. I am of the school of thought that if you have not done it, it is difficult to tell people how to do it.
  8. So I moved between three different schools. U of Michigan was first for two years: 1.89 Washtenaw Community College was for a year :3.47 Eastern Michigan University was three years 3.59 Got my BA in Psychology GRE's were 161 Verbal, 165 Quantitative. I have two years work experience as an Assistant Manager of a small local business, as well as miscellaneous other odd jobs Have no research papers published yet, however have been working with professors and am not worried about positive letters of recommendation Only thing that is really up in the air is the writing that I will submit which basically will involve me living at the writing center for the next two weeks. Although I know it is a minor point but am also a African American, male. I am looking at PHD programs in I-O Psychology. If anyone has any last minute advice for me that would also be great as I am having trouble deciding how I want to structure my writing, should I be more analytical in my writing. Using terms such as human factors, or observed. Or should I go more in the direction of - coworkers, softer(more human as it were). Any help will be much appreciated.
  9. I re-read my post and realized that I sounded kind of douchey on the GRE scores thing and for that I appologize. After talking to other people I realized that those scores were actually pretty good, I just saw a bunch of people posting here who had better scores and was worried because they sounded worried. I am meeting with professors for Letters of Rec next week and was wondering if anyone had any advice on steps I should take, good ways to message professors at the university to see if they are taking in students that fall, things of that nature.
  10. Hello everyone now that school has started again and all the professors are back I am doing intensive preparations for applications for the 2013 Fall. I have three professors who I am going to talk to about letters of recommendation, two who I will have/will be doing research with as well as one whom I did research for one of his phd students as well as took a class with him. Now to the nitty gritty My Overall GPA was 3.59 with a 3.73 in psychology. That was for the last two years of my degree, However my scores at my pervious college (due to deaths in the family as well as divorces) were much lower. I did a trial run of the GRE(two weeks of two hours a day for prep) and got 86th percentile verbal and 92nd percentile math. I was wondering if I should re-take it or not? I plan to take the Subject test at the end of the month and plan on spending most of this month preparing for it. I am strongly interested in Michigan state, however I know they are very competative and was wondering if anyone had advice for how to improve my chances. Thank you all for your help and if there are any questions that I can answer to help let me know and I will try to get back to you ASAP. This is my life/job for the next three months so I need to make it happen.
