Stupid Question?

One of the schools I applied to invited me to a "grads day" where prospective students are supposed to meet with their department's current students, potential professors, etc. It is not until late March. I haven't heard anything from this school otherwise. I think it might be a school-wide event, not department-specific. I RSVPd but now I'm wondering if I'll get rejected before the event or that I will have to wait until after then to hear? Is this normal? I thought responses would come earlier. Do you think all applicants were invited and I'm reading too much into it?

I got invited to one of those things too, but it probably isn't the same school. When I RSVP'd I noticed that anyone who wants to can sign up to go so it doesn't mean anything. I also believe this school has started to notify applicants already but the event is in mid March so if I get rejected beforehand I'm obviously not going.

  • 2 weeks later...

I still have not heard anything from this school! This thing is at the end of next week, and I think the school has spring break this week. I am a little annoyed that I will probably have to wait another two weeks to find out anything. I also would like to know if I even stand a chance before I make the trip to visit this late in the game...

I would say go for it either way. If you haven;t heard word from them yet, then you can motivate them to choose you at the meet n greet (when you say something profound/do something geeky/good). If you get rejected (I doubt this), then I would say that if its not too much trouble, GO. It wouldn't hurt. they cant reject you twice! Besides by going, they could see that you really do like the school/program and they may reconsider your application (unlikely, but it never hurts to give it your best).

GO GO GO

Then again, I don't know all the details; you do. If its not your top 2/3 schools, or you already got accepted into a better program,....these things factor into your decision. If I did get accepted by another school/rejected by this one...I would still go...even if its just to show them what they could-a had lol :)

I like your optimism. I hope you're right. I'm just terrified that I'll go, fall in love, and then get rejected. I'm not sure if I could go after getting rejected. I've seen four acceptances to the program to which I applied (literature) on grad cafe...and I've yet to receive any notification from them.

@Pizza: What do you think the dress code is? Is business casual a safe bet? I've got a week to break in a nice pair of flats. Sigh...

It would suck if that happened, but it would show character: you don't give up.

Try not to think negatively though, if you can, think optimistically (pity I can hardly think optimistically now lol).

That reminds me of undergrad. I visited my school for the first time after I applied, and I think walking around, looking at the students and being insecure about whether I was going to be accepted or not made me not like the school. Everything seemed dreary and foreboding. But when I visited after I got accepted, then suddenly I loved it, and there was sunshine and flowers.... :P

I would probably go to the event. Could help your decision later!
