MIT Media Lab Fall 2018

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone. I haven't seen a post regarding the MIT Media Lab application this year, so this topic is for all candidates to share.

On 6th Jan, my online portfolio had 7 visitors from MIT (Google analytics), averagely staying on 10 minutes (from 1st Dec to present, 16 visitors totally). But I haven't received an interview invitation email yet. Based on the previous years' results, it seems that interview is essential, and I just saw a single post on the Results Panel "Accepted via phone after two rounds of interviews. Very excited!", then it means that someone already got an offer, right?

I was in the Open House 2nd Oct, and the following information is what I have picked up:

Conformable Decoders: Canan's group is a science-core one, and it would be more competitive with a materials background (I remember that David mentioned some transplant project with the BGH), so I didn't choose it since it is not a match for me.

Responsive Environment: For now, all students are at PhD level and no Master students there, still, 0-2 places.

Any additional information would be appreciated (but please do mention your fields of interest, it might be beneficial for others or further applicants). Best wishes for you all.

Hi.

I only had 5 page views from one visitor on Jan 10th, which lasted about a minute and a half...I already feel like I won't be making to the interview ... :-(

Hi, plz be positive. Interviews are supposed to be completed around late Feb.

May I know which three groups you applied? I think those two acceptance posts should be spam.

Thanks for creating this topic, @raffle, and best wishes to all!

I've applied to the following groups: Affective Computing, Social Machines, and Lifelong Kindergarten. My website had some hits from an MIT IP address earlier this month, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm actually the one acceptance and the one interview on the results thread - I was originally contacted by Conformable Decoders (2nd) choice, interviewed, was accepted, found out that I got an interview for the MEMP program, and figured it couldn't hurt to reach out to Biomechatronics (1st) since Herr is known for preferring to take HST students for funding reasons. I would definitely say not to worry yet, even while interviewing with Conformable Decoders they recognized that they were very much ahead of the usual timeline.

Congrats (thumbs up). And thanks for providing these information since it might comfort those awaiting. Btw, will you choose Conformable Decoders, or waiting for a better program?

Applied, only got one hit from MIT and 8 page views lasting about 2 minutes. Doesn't look too promising, but let's see what happens :D

Got accepted into a pretty cool similar-ish program in the UK though, so I won't be too bummed.

Applied to Fluid Interfaces, Personal Robots, and Responsive Environments.

Applied to Responsive Environments, Tangible Media, and Viral Communications. BTW, how do you all know whether the hits were from MIT? My website got several hits from Cambridge, but I don't really know it's from MIT. I'm using Google Analytics they don't provide that info.. Any ideas?

look at the Network analytics - the network should be something with "MIT" in the name.

@leamars yep, stay positive and let’s see what happens:D. May I know which similar program it is? I obtained my BSc and Master’s degree in the UK.

The IDE (Innovation Design Engineering) program by the Royal College of Art & Imperial College.

I had no visits from MIT to my portfolio whatsoever :(

I think I submitted the application a little late (yet the system took the payment) and wonder if that's related. Or I'm just not good enough of a  candidate this time.

Anyhow, best of luck to all. I'll probably be going to my second choice school.

I too got a couple of hits last Friday, but no interview requests =  bwah.

For folks who got into other programs but haven't had responses from MIT, are you going somewhere else or reapplying next year?

Trying to understand this outside of myself.
