ArcierePrudente Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 So I'm a political/social sciences applicant who applied to late-notification schools (if past and present Results searches are any indication). At least one is supposed to start notifying admits this coming week—with no news generally meaning bad news. Has anyone else been really nervous about checking their email on the days when admissions decisions are supposed to get sent out? If so, what did you do/what are your plans for checking? Did you/will you wait until the end of the day, do it around friends (and/or alcohol), wait for complete privacy (and/or more alcohol)? I'm at a loss over here. Obviously this isn't the kind of thing that can be put off, but... oy. Beardown_AZ 1
lafry Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I have email notifications on my phone -- so every time I see that I get an email, my heart drops. I just look at it right away, most of the time its not from schools. So far, only have gotten one email notifying me of a decision (acceptance, thank goodness). I think its just better to look at it right away, that way you don't have to have to agonize over it all day. Waiting won't change the decision! Best of luck to you! khigh Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I have an Apple Watch. There is no way to avoid checking my email a million times a day. I could take my watch off, but I need to be able to check WhatsApp at any time. Beardown_AZ 1
Tyedyedturtle91 Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 My mail doesn't automatically fetch on my phone. I go through phases of obsessively checking and avoiding it like the plague. Tend to be more sane when I limit it, but god is it hard. Beardown_AZ and ArcierePrudente 1 1
Sunday_Night Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I go through this moment of panic every time I get an email notification. Probably not that healthy. ArcierePrudente and Beardown_AZ 1 1

Every time I see that little red dot in my mail app I always think that it could be from a university. Usually ends up being spam or work.
Beardown_AZ Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) I am a political science applicant too. I have only heard from the only Master's Program that I applied to. Expecting to hear from the other schools I applied to soon. ArcierePrudente Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Thanks for everyone's commiseration/feedback. Last week was a series of false starts for me (my top school is running late this year, which seems to be the trend for several universities), but I'm expecting to see the results board light up tomorrow or the day after. I applied to two programs within the same school, so what I might do is wait until both release their admissions offers and then check my personal account. They shouldn't be more than a few days to a week apart.
Clementina Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Applied to several MScs in Europe. I have a mini heart attack every time I receive an email, but on my personal account this happens less than once per day. I'm really anxious though and I find myself checking my email (kinda ridiculous when no notification popped) sometimes... It's hard to try and keep up with my job when I want to leave it but also don't have a confirmation to ease my anxiety Pro: my inbox has never been cleaner.
