If you get accepted to PhD but waitlisted for funding...

Question

Posted

So I received my first response today from one of the eight schools I applied to for an English PhD. I was admitted to the program but waitlisted for funding/TAship. I don't want to go into a program without funding and I was wondering if anyone had experience with this and how many of you ended up receiving funding after being put on a waitlist. Thank you!

It's going to depend on what the folks who have been offered funding decide to do about their offers. If enough of them decline, you may be offered funding. If you really like the program, you should look into TA/GA positions in other departments on campus (e.g., housing/residence life, student union, etc.)
