Hey Quebec people. Has anyone here applied for doctoral funding from FRQS or FRQSC?

I’m wondering about the requirements/typical profile of people who get the award... the PhD level award doesn’t seem to have concrete GPA requirements, etc. like the tri-council CGS-D, and the scoring criteria seem to be more focused on research. Does anyone know if that’s accurate?

I got a FRQSC Master's and a FRQS PhD

The profile of people winning is very similar to SSHRC and much less competitive than CIHR I would say.

I believe you need a similar GPA to federal scholarships

I am waiting for a decision for FRQSC at the master's level right now. I believe you need a first class average? Which would be A- for your entire master's studies?

For Ph.D, that's how they grade it. For me, it's 60 (competency) and 40 (research project), so yes, there's more emphasis on research at the Ph.D. level.

Interesting! I expected it to be similar to SSHRC, but then saw that about 50% of eligible applicants get the award which seems really high.

Thanks for sharing! I checked out FRQS too because I can apply for either agency and it looks like they’re even more research-focused.
