Adelaide9216 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Has anyone here engaged with the media about their research topic? (by engaging, I mean writing an OP-ED piece related to an event that is tied to your research area). Do you have any tips or advice on how to do that? Because I've been very unsuccessful at it.
rising_star Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I think part of it is being known for your research so that outlets seek you out for an op-ed. Beyond that, I find the Shorenstein Center's (out of Harvard) guidelines for op-eds to be really helpful. Adelaide9216 and TakeruK 2
TakeruK Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 My graduate school had a Communications/Media department (not the academic department, but like a press office) that would help researchers do things like this. Their main priority is to help researchers write and distribute press releases about their research, but they will help with things like this too, if nothing else higher priority was on their project list. Is there a similar resource at your University? Adelaide9216 1
Adelaide9216 Posted April 30, 2018 Author Posted April 30, 2018 Yes! I've seen something similar at my university. I'll explore that option. Thank you!
