Think_Positive Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 So I've spent (probably too much) time looking over the results board. I've noticed a lot of schools send acceptances via email even if unofficially, but I more commonly see rejections arrive via postal service. Has anyone else found this to be the case? Twice now I've received confirmation that letters had been sent out via the post, one was a rejection, and I haven't gotten the second one yet.... However, I know that for certificate and masters programs I've applied to in the past, I've gotten acceptances in the mail with no email.... Just wondering if I should start preparing myself for the worst now, or if there might still be hope for me.
Jae B. Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Interesting thought. Probably just depends. There could still be hope! Be sure to check the fine print on your school's website -- some of these sites are really poorly designed -- or just go ahead and e-mail them. So far, I've mostly heard of e-mailed admissions notification if you applied using an online form. Both of the schools I applied to communicate decisions via e-mail. Be sure to check your spam folder. That's where mine was!
Think_Positive Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 With another rejection received via snail mail (without any electronic correspondence), and with every day that goes by that I don't get an email from the last school I'm waiting for... I'm getting a very bad feeling that this is the case. Seems like the vast majority of the programs will send an unofficial email if you get in, but not if you don't.
ootg Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 From my experience, some will email you, others email you to check the application website for results, and others do not even send you an email, but expect you to check the site yourself. As for snail mail, I've heard that it can bring both good and bad news. Not sure if snail mail is used exclusively for local students, or if they actually send snail mail to overseas applicants too. There are a number of us who have yet to hear from a number of schools. Not sure what's up with them, and whether they are still deciding on whether to take those they haven't emailed. I'm trying to think positive, that no news is good news, but I have an ugly suspicion that I'm just going to get a bunch of rejections.
ootg Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I'm international, and yes we get stuff through snail mail. As of this week, I've received one acceptance by snail mail (MA), and two rejections (PhDs). Thanks for letting me know! Now I'll have to worry about my mail deliveries too.
superduper Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I've applied to 4 schools; three of which had the jan 15 deadline. Today in March 19, and I have not gotten a word from any of these schools.. except to tell me what was missing in the app (had to resend gres, transcripts, etc.) but no EMAIL just putting me out of this misery. I applied to public school-- almost 15 min from my house with Feb 1 deadline, also have not heard from it. FOUR schools, and not a single acceptance/rejection. All are for Masters level. I am assuming the worst. If I get rejected from all my schools then I'm going to need another plan. What is Plan B? On a positive note my partner got rejected from 6 out of 6 law schools in 03, and then applied late to a lower tier school and got a 100% scholarship. No debt out of law school which is rare and beautiful thing.
verda Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I got rejected by 6 out of 12 schools so far for PhDs. Some were by snailmail, some by postal. The ones I haven't heard from so far also have MA-programs, and on the results-pages I haven't seen any acceptances received yet for 5 of the 6 MA's, so I'm still having some hope for those.
