Anyone applied for the joint PhD in French and French studies at NYU hear back? Also, did really uchicago sent acceptance email yesterday?

I got an acceptance from Chicago yesterday, but I’ve also had acceptances come later than other reported confirmations, so I wouldn’t panic.

@Ellekori I would focus on your research interests, your sample(s) you submitted for the program, and how the program is a good fit for you (resources, profs). I.e., Why have you chosen the particular field of research within French literature, What prior coursework/readings/experiences brought you to that field? Also, I'd recommend rereading your statements in case they want you to elaborate on anything you detailed there. And of course, don't forget your questions for the program!

I wore a nice shirt and business pants (I had a suit jacket but it was too hot to wear). Best of luck with your interview!

@mfrostpunch @Frenchlady hahaha yes, we seriously should! Don't you all let one rejection affect you. I'm sure something will work out. I have a lot of friends that go to an Ivy now and they were rejected from other schools not as prestigious. You all got this!!!!!

Any updates? Anyone going to be visiting Michigan for their open house, by the way?

I've heard back from everyone except Berkeley -- although I assume that, given the future departure from the department of the specialist in my field, a rejection wouldn't be too surprising, and would be essentially based on fit with the department.

I can assure you that the process for Oxford and Cambridge is perfectly tuned to maximizing the anxiety. I've been essentially admitted to both programs, but the departments don't control funding. Rather, the departments recommend admission and nominates the candidate for funding opportunities, the university admits, and the university (or funding committees in the case of special programs) then determines funding. So it's a long stretch, and being admitted doesn't mean squat until you get funding ....

@LOiseauRouge Same!  Just got the email an hour ago. I felt that their interview was much easier/went more smoothly than Columbia's.

Current tally for anyone lurking:

Accepted: Cornell, NYU

Waitlisted: Harvard

Interviewed (decision forthcoming): CUNY

No response: Stanford

Rejected: Columbia

I'm assuming that Stanford is a no since they seem to have done interviews in years past and notified shortlisted candidates late-January.  Doesn't seem like anyone else here applied to Stanford's program, but if anyone lurking has interviewed or received a response I'd appreciate you chiming in!

Edited to reflect the rejection from Columbia that I received just after making this post

@correr Oh gosh, that's not a good sign.  Would you recommend that I reach out via email or just wait and see?  Also, I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the DLCL/Stanford overall, even if you aren't in French.

@Ellekori Thank you! I applied for the PhD in French Literature. I'm not sure if they've reached out to the joint PhD people or not. I believe it's also with the Institute of French Studies (unless I'm mistaken), so perhaps the procedure is different?

Just got my Berkeley rejection, saw that one coming, but it's nice to at least know officially. I also got my notification that I was waitlisted at UCSB yesterday. That's all of my programs!

Hello all,

Request to join the "rejected by Brown" club. Any annual fees? haha

I haven't posted since page 1 of this thread but it"s nice to see that it has gotten so lively!

@Ellekori Columbia has sent out decisions as of last Monday, and it was a no for me.

I spoke via email to the coordinator at Stanford and she said that decisions will be sent out this week, but it doesn't look like anyone else in the thread here has applied.

Word on the street is that Princeton sent out decisions today. (Someone I know confirmed that they received an acceptance.)
