LaceySpeechie Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Hey! Is anyone applying to or currently attending grad school at Bridgewater? I'm trying to figure out the deal with the prerequisites. I got my BS in CSD so I have all the prerequisites, except the 100-level math and 100-level biology. At my undergrad program, we were allowed (nay, highly recommended) to take Nutrition for our biological science requirement, and I took Statistics but didn't take any other math course. To clarify, does Bridgewater require you to take a second, non-Stats math course? And is there any way Nutrition could count for my bio requirement? If I need to take extra courses I'd debate applying at all, since I'm out of school and currently working abroad which would make fulfilling those requirements a bit of a hassle. Is there any possibility that I could take those classes alongside the grad coursework? I'd also love to talk to anyone who's attending Bridgewater to know more about the program, since it's so new! Thanks.
bibliophile222 Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I can't speak on behalf of Bridgewater State, but it sounds like the prereqs they're looking for might be the ones required by ASHA. ASHA requires a stats course but no other math course, so I think you might be fine there. I think the nutrition course might be sort of a gray area. I didn't see it listed explicitly here: https://www.asha.org/certification/course-content-areas-for-slp-standards/ but which courses will qualify are ultimately up to the discretion of the grad program. For instance, my program is letting me use my astronomy course for a physical science, which is awesome. I would contact Bridgewater State directly for clarification. If they don't accept nutrition for a bio prereq then some other programs also may not, but schools may vary. If you're interested in several programs it might be good to ask them all first.
