Subhasis Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Let me elaborate on my situation a little bit......I have applied to about 7 universities for a M.S. in Electrical Engineering. Below are my stats:- I recently took my Gre and got v-550 & q-790.(Boy,it was a really rough experience) Toefl-111 I have a GPA of 8.36 on a 10 point scale. my majors is in electrical engineering from the west bengal university of technology(India). Class Position-In the top 5. class 10-91.3% class 12-72.0%(Jaundice!!!) Ieee member, national creativity Olympiad winner, member of the institution of engineers, final year project on longitudinal system stabilty. Job experience of 6 months in INFOSYS by the time i attend the schools in roughly SEP 2010. Strong recommenders, well written statement of purpose ,letter of reference etc... The Universities to which i applied to are:- 1>University of Wisconsin--Madison 2>University of California - San Diego 3>University of Illinois–Urbana-Champaign 4>Texas A & M University - College Station 5>U of Delaware 6>Iowa State University 7>University of Florida,Gainesville 8>Kansas State University Till date , i have only got i reply from Wisconsin-madison saying i am rejected.... My question is this ,since it is so late in march ,should i assume that i have been rejected???? If anybody could help me,i would be very grateful indeed.... Sorry for the long rant:(.I am sooooo depressed..
KieBelle Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I don't think you should assume that you've been rejected. Many people (including myself) are still waiting to hear from schools. However, if you feel that you should have heard something by now, you might want to call/email the schools and ask if decisions have been made.
Russophile Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I wouldn't worry about rejection yet, especially if you are applying for a master's, a lot of people are still waiting to hear back. Additionally, if you live in India and the schools you applied to only send messages by post, you might not hear back from your schools until a week or so after your US counterparts. Good luck and don't lose hope, there is still time for good news!
Bubbles8697 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I did my undergraduate degree in at Madison. It is extremely competitive to enter their masters programs whichever area you apply to. I am not sure how your gpa translates to a from a ten point scale to a 4.0 scale. You also have to understand that you are also competing against other international and local students because of the economy many more people are applying which means a longer wait time on top of the fact that you are in Bengal (very far). I would check in the results section to see whether these schools have offered acceptances/rejections and gauge where you stand from there. You are bound to hear back regardless of how long it takes so you do not have get worried as of yet considering you only got one reply! I agree with the posts above me in that you should call and ask. Since you are long distance it prob. would be the best way to know. The least they can say is that you have to wait for it in the mail. Start calling from the bottom of your list. http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=electrical+engineering&t=a&pp=25 This page should help you. I saw that someone was rejected from UCSD in EE via email. I am not sure what this means for you, but I know it would give me some piece of mind knowing that I did not receive a rejection. Good luck and have some faith in yourself (that can take you a long way).
Subhasis Posted March 21, 2010 Author Posted March 21, 2010 Thanks everybody for such wonderful advice, There is a situation update i would like to share with all of you:- I wrote an e-mail to all the universities graduate admissions department and only Iowa replied telling me that decisions will be out by April. I am now thinking that maybe since i reported my TOEFL scores a little late(due to some credit card problems:o:unsure:),maybe they have put my review on hold. Is that possible............???? I am feeling like the least loved person in mother earth now............. PLEASE HELP ME
Lousy Test taker Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 M.S decisions are more or less likely to be rolled out in April or later, and they review the application only after they deem it complete which includes receipt of official scores and the additional material. As a matter of fact when I had applied for my M.S, I got a couple of acceptance after May!!!So, do not worry about being the least loved person on Earth,I guess everyone on this board feels more or less the same way like you do I am still waiting on applications from January and the schools being considerate and caring like they usually are, say decisions will be out by April 15th. It made me feel so much better that instead of choosing sedatives for dying I'm now contemplating taking the quick route and jump from my apt! Just hang in there man!
psychdork Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Don't start worrying yet. I'm still waiting on a couple PhD programs that had December 1st deadlines! Masters programs are just starting to notify applicants so you still have some time. Hang in there, I know how hard it is. Try to find a hobby or something that will distract you for the time being.
