As I head from other PhD students, they suggested me that I should take courses only because how we interact with the first two year courses significantly matters whether we can pass comprehensive exams (or qualifying exams). If we have extra energy and time, we can do RA, but not TA because TA are time-and energy consuming than RA. Of course, that situation may differ from school to school. Thank you for your first shot to open this discussion in 2019~ I really appreciate that.
