ray92 Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Hello, So I was accepted to a top 50 graduate cs program according to csrankings. Is this a high enough ranking for a pursing a PhD or should I continue with my Masters at a top 25 school and hope for a higher school next year?
yjkim192 Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 If you are going for Phd now or then. Definitely choose the PhD. Rankings do not matter in the long run. Also, there is no guarantee that you will succeed next year. After getting a masters degree your profile will be evaluated much more rigorously. Unless they think you are ready right away for a PhD they will not admit you.
Luptior Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 I agree with yjkim192 Also, you can still choose to reapply at the first year of your PhD program if you feel it is not a good match.
Rayco Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 Agree with yjkim192 too. While applying PhD, master students are required higher than bachelor students, because they has two or three more years experiences. For the PhD program, the ranking doesn't matter, but you need find out how the reputation and the work of the research area is, how the former PhD's careers are, and so on.
