SLPCareerChanger Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Hello GradCafe friends! Anyone else attend the virtual open house? What did you all think? Just opening up the topic to see if anyone responds.

Just opening up the topic to see if anyone responds. Hi there! I called into the meeting on the way home from work last night. I think it seems like a good program with lots of support, and the online format seems very flexible. It seems like they really want to get to know all of us, and that they want us to succeed. I also liked that they help us find our clinical placements....I understand this is not common with other online programs. I am a Virginia resident, so this option is considerably more affordable than my other options at this point. I would have liked a bit more clarity on the class schedule, format, and testing procedures, but perhaps that was discussed before I signed in. What were your impressions of last evening? *I should also add that it seems they really work with you to find the placements that you want. I asked specifically via email if they have connections with locations of particular interest to me in my geographical area. Edited February 13, 2019 by slpsalaz

They seem to want their online cohorts to feel like a community, which is great. I am nervous about the prospect of finding my own placements, and I wonder what the clinical support looks like in an online program, but I imagine that's an issue with any distance ed situation. I am unfortunately not a VA resident, so the cost is a potential issue for me. I have applied to a few programs local to me that I haven't heard back from. The part-time online program idea is attractive to me as an adult learner with a family, but I'm not sure I can justify the cost if I get accepted to a school that offers me in-state tuition. So grateful to have this first acceptance though!

It sounds like some evening flexibility is needed to be able to be successful in the program since it's a cohort model.

I just wrote to Dr. Clinard yesterday asking if I might be put in contact with a current or former student, so maybe I will have information to share as well.
