  1. I got ahold of a student in the 2017 cohort. She said that there are mandatory online meetings 1-2x per week depending on semester. It sounds like some evening flexibility is needed to be able to be successful in the program since it's a cohort model.
  2. So I am starting the JMU distance program this summer. I got ahold of a current student via fb and she said that her cohorts biggest negative review of the program is the required online meetings. Depending on the semester there are 1-2 live meetings per week. For me this isn't and issue, but it hasn't been advertised to that is something to think about it if you are planning on working in the evenings.
  3. Hmm the only thing I can add on this topic is that I want to avoid schools at all costs. I emailed Dr. Clinard telling her as much and she said that it was possible.
  4. Hi! I did my prereqs online through Longwood University. I won't necessarily say it was the best quality education... mostly multiple choice exams and pointless discussion board posts BUT... It got me to the programs I wanted to get into at an affordable rate!! So if you are looking to check boxes I would reccomend it
  5. Hi there! Recently admitted career-changer as well. I went to JMU undergrad (different field) but I know the CSD program is general is serious there and that the program is ranked well. I am wondering about the quality of the distance education as well. I am deciding between JMU's distance program and UVA (commuting from Richmond). I feel that the JMU one would fit my lifestyle better... Also didn't totally like the vibe I got from the UVA program with the elitist attitude...
  6. At this point I am deciding between the JMU distance program or commuting from Richmond to UVA. I am leaning towards JMU as it would better fit my lifestyle ana and the program is actually ranked better (wondering the quality of the distance program). Would love to hear from a former james madison distance student and their experience.
