kamtea Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Is Vanderbilt generous with funding? Can't tell from previous years if most accepted applicants receive some form of scholarship or not.
Ari127 Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 I'm also curious about this. Their FAQ says: "Many (up to 70%) of our graduate students receive some level of financial support. For the practitioner degrees (M.S. in SLP and Au.D.), such support comes in the form of remitted tuition, ranging from 25% to 100%. Financial awards which are competitive in nature – are offered at or around the time we let students know of acceptance, wait lists, etc., which is generally around the second week of March. Given that 100% of graduate students need financial assistance, need is not a factor; financial awards are offered on the basis of merit, using criteria very similar to that used to judge acceptance into the program." However, EdFind says: "Number of Admission Offers: Full time: 53" and "Number of Admission Offers with Funding: 11". I'm not sure which percentage is more accurate, unfortunately.
kamtea Posted March 10, 2019 Author Posted March 10, 2019 (edited) @Ari127 same, i'm not sure which info to trust. looking at past threads, quite a few people said they were "alternates for funding", meaning that a lot of people didn't get funding...also, i'm not sure if 70% means 70% of the class, which is around 20 so that means around 14 get funding which is similar to the edfind number OR if they mean 70% of those accepted. maimas4466 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I got my funding letter in the mail today!! Was sent to my home address
kamtea Posted March 11, 2019 Author Posted March 11, 2019 @maimas4466 congrats! did it mention anything about how selective they were with giving out funding?
Lincoln135 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 I received a letter as well. They did not mention how selective they were with the funding in the letter. Does anyone know if they have many teaching assistantships or research assistantships with funding? Even with the funding they offered it is still too expensive for me without another form of income.
Ari127 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 I also received my letter today, but wasn't offered any funding (which was expected, since I definitely didn't have as high of stats as other accepted applicants). I'm disappointed, and likely will have to decline the offer in favor of a much less expensive program. I just can't rationalize spending an additional ~$50,000 (even for such an incredible school!).
