Spring Break

I was hoping (expecting really) to hear from my first choice program by yesterday given that their spring break starts tomorrow.  

Does spring break mean I should just resign myself to not hearing anything until they get back or is that just for the students and the administrators work through it?

Not all universities have spring break at the same time (or at all).  If they do, however, have it next week, you can expect that most faculty are lazier during this time, but not everyone takes time off, esp if they have deadlines or something during that week (such as grad app deadlines).

At some Universities Spring Break is only a break for students while faculty and staff are expected to report to work unless they requested time off in advance.  Because admissions is a hectic time for everyone it is likely someone(s) is handling matters related to applicants and it is entirely possible for applicants to receive communication during this time.
