Jennifer_Sexton Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 Hi all! So my goal is to attend a clinical neuropsychology PhD program next year, and I just completed my GRE. I studied for about 2 months for it, pretty seriously (between 2 hrs - 8 hrs a day) and ended up with the following score: Verbal: 160 Quant: 158 AWA: 4.5 I’m trying to decide if I should try to retake it. Now that the semester has started I will certainly have less time to study, but I know my Quant and AWA are pretty low. I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize my chances because I know these programs are incredibly difficult to get into. Just looking for opinions.
PsyDuck90 Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 As long as your scores are within the average range for accepted students, you should be fine. GREs and GPAs are usually looked at to make sure someone meets a certain threshold. Research fit, reseach experience, SOP, and LORs carry more weight.
Clinapp2017 Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 A 318 is pretty good. My view is unless you can improve your score by 5-6 points, no reason to retake it. In your case, you are right around the sweet-spot of 320 that is what I have heard is an informal "all good" on the GRE front. On an unrelated note, if you want to talk to me about clinical neuropsychology programs, message me because that is my research/clinical area.
Schy Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I'm impressed that you studied for that long! I'm having a hard time sticking to an hour. Do you have any recommendations for how you studied? psychedoncafe 1
