futurespeechpath1 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 One of the school's I have been accepted too is brand new, if I attend I'd be their first cohort. They'll be hearing about their accreditation in a week or two, and once they receive their candidacy for accreditation I think I might put my deposit there. I'm just a little nervous about starting a program that is brand new. The program director created two other grad programs that are very well known and strong programs so I'm sure the academics will be great, but I'm just worried the program will shut down after a year for whatever reason or that they'll lose their candidacy for accreditation standing. Is that likely to happen? Would it be difficult getting a job after I graduate from a new program in candidacy standing?
slp2be99 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 From what I heard as long as the school doesn't get in trouble they won't lose their candidacy status and that rarely happens. Just because the program is new doesn't mean its any less than somewhere else. Everyone has to start somewhere. I honestly do not think that employers would care if you're school is in candidacy or not because you will still get your C's just like everyone else. futurespeechpath1 1

I was just worried because a professor at my undergrad kind of scared us and said Aurora University had a program bt shut down because it couldn't get enough professors to teach or something

I doubt if they didn't have enough from the start they would still have a cohort for the fall. futurespeechpath1 1

I will be attending UT Health San Antonio this fall and they are a new program as well. They were able to address our concerns about their accreditation status! As long as they obtain candidacy status, they are fully accredited like the other universities! It takes 5 years to obtain this, but it will not affect your CCC. Similarly, ASHA has never stripped C's from students on account of their university wavering on accreditation. You can view a university accreditation status on ASHA EdFind. Hope this helps and congrats! futurespeechpath1 1

Once I hear back from Lewis about whether or not they've been granted candidacy I'll put my deposit there, it seems like such a great program. Caitzilla 1
