Rehana202 Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Hi all! Wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for African American lit programs? I'm particularly interested in mid and low tier school. Thank you!
WildeThing Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 I dunno what mid to low tier would mean but some schools that seemed strong when I applied were UVA, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, UConn, Brown, Emory, Columbia. But Af-Am is so broad now that most schools will have at least 2-3 for you to work with. Also, a lot of schools also have Africana or other interdisciplinary PhD program you might want to consider. Rehana202 Posted August 14, 2020 Author Posted August 14, 2020 Thanks for these recommendations! I hadn't even thought about UConn or Emory. I'm slowly discovering some of interdisciplinary programs, too. Appreciate your reply!
Karatani Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Rutgers and Columbia are probably at the top; Spillers is retiring so Vanderbilt is maybe not as strong; UVA and Berkeley are really strong, and Penn is good but some of their AfAm people are more conservative.
