Thankyou so much for this, do you mind telling us your stats pleasec

Sure! :)

The GPA for my last 10 credits when I applied was 3.90 and for my final year it was 3.97.

I felt pretty good about my SOI, albeit I started and finished it over the span of a few days.

At the time of applying, My ECs were not extremely global health oriented but many of my activities involved discussing mental health. I had a publication and expected another, had 2 conference presentations, was a teaching assistant for 2 courses, had a lot of volunteer experience in healthcare, and a lot of experience in leadership.

Hope this helps to clear things up! :)

So guys I just called the global health office and they said a few things that I thought were important.
- admissions and acceptances are ongoing. Not all acceptances have been given out

- it issue would  most likely be resolved next week and students should get their responses within the next couple

-gpa matters but a lot of emphasis is put on the statement of interest and references

-they said they were unaware of people getting accepted as late as sept or august without receiving a waitlist. Maybe it’s an sgs thing

to get a better understanding I called sgs and it went straight to voice mail

I just got an acceptance email (with a scholarship) after receiving a waitlist email last week. I am very confused

Omg really! Congrats! I received a waitlist email at 3:18 pm on May 18th... when did you get yours? :o

Hey Everyone, I just received my offer of admission into the global health program and got a small entrance scholarship last Wednesday! The email went to my junk folder and I didn't see it until today so make sure that you are also checking your junk folders! I now have a conditional offer symbol on my mosaic and the deadline to accept/decline is on June 2nd.

This forum has been really helpful while I was waiting to hear back from Mac so I thought I would share some of my application details: My GPA in 10 most recent was 12.0, my background is in Biological sciences, my reference letters were submitted by 2 of my professors that I've worked with on research for 3 years and 1 year, on my resume I highlighted hospital volunteering (regionally and internationally) experiences, research and conferences that I attended, and some of the leadership roles I held at my university.

For my SOI, I answered each of the 4 questions in separate paragraphs and connected them to my personal leadership and volunteer experiences and interests. I worked on this for several weeks to ensure that I answered everything carefully and stayed within the word limit.

I submitted my application pretty late (around January 27th I believe) but this was the only grad program that I applied to. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me, I am happy to help :) I hope to hear more offer of admissions from you all and wishing you all the very best!

I have a few questions for those who got accepted so far and I would love to connect with you all!

I called the admissions office to ask whether the program will be offered in-person or remotely, about studying abroad for our specialization, attending the symposium in winter, and if we can access the syllabus/ program outline. They said that it's too early to predict whether the upcoming year will be offered In-person and to check McMaster's COVID-19 update page for more info but this might vary from program to program. They also said that the the symposium and specializations abroad were offered remotely last year, due to the pandemic and are unsure about next winter as it would depend on the country's travel restrictions. Lastly, for their syllabus they said that it will be made available in June only to those who accept their offer.

There isn't much information available at this time to make a decision on whether or not accepting our admissions  due to how unpredictable everything is, but I thought I would share the information that I have on this. They have a very narrow window of time to make a decision on whether you accept/decline the offer and I still want to have as much detail about the program as possible before committing to the program! Is there an unofficial facebook group I could join to get some more information about the program and connect with you all?

Hi everyone!

I guess I'm late to the game but wanted to share I was WL'd at 3:17 pm on May 18. Had a 12.0 GPA for last 10 credits, decent ECs but felt like my SOI was pretty weak (wrote it in only a few days since I had a lot going on).

I'm happy I found this platform, and it'll be interesting to see future developments in the program over the next couple of weeks/months!

Thanks for sharing your stats! I was waitlisted at the exact same time and date as you. Would you be willing to share whether your name is close to the top of the alphabet? I noticed our email came in a few minutes before some others who posted and I am wondering if the waitlist emails were sent alphabetically (my name is near the top of the alphabet) or whether the time stamp might be based on waitlist rank. I'm probably reading too far into it, but you never know lol

My last name starts with M, so who knows maybe ? Is McMaster known for sending out staggered e-mails relative to someone's position on the WL? If so, that's pretty exciting! :)

Okay thanks! I actually have no idea if they send out emails based on rank but I have been seeing a lot of people posting about the time that their email came in so I thought there could be a connection there. Good luck :)

When I called them the other day, they said they haven’t given out all acceptances yet due to the IT issue

Hi,

So, they sent out the waitlist before all the acceptances were sent out? I don't have experience with this so if anyone can shed light on this process it would be helpful. I'm trying to understand why they wouldn't send all the acceptances out before the waitlisted individuals get their response?

This school's acceptance rollout is a big joke. Sorry for ranting but some students may need to find a house/roommate or decide between other master's programs. This is so ridiculous.

Just got my rejection via e-mail! Good luck to everyone still waiting :)

Stats in case anyone cares: 11.9 GPA, cancelled research position due to COVID-19 but I still mentioned it, diverse ECs, SOI was well done imo and I used a past GH student's app as a template

Definitely. Not to mention that if all acceptances have not been sent out, they are risking losing great candidates who have accepted other offers, believing that they don't have a good chance of being selected since they didn't receive an offer or at least be put on the waitlist.

Just got a rejection too ?...Goodluck to everyone else

I will also post my stats and info: gpa was 11.5, soi was done nicely and got many people in professional schools to proofread, diverse extracurriculars, did a thesis, lots of leadership roles at the uni...I did an extra year on top of co op to boost my gpa for med school, references were good (one of them was my thesis supervisor)

Just got rejected as well. 11.90, thought my soi was amazing tbh, great reference letters and a lot of experience and EC's in community & public health. My guess just from knowing those that got in and those that didn't they were all amazing candidates so it is all a little arbitrary when there are so many qualified applicants. Don't be hard on yourself, I hope you all find another program you are excited about :))

Also got rejected as well, gpa was 10.7/12, soi was reviewed by some friends who’s in professional school, currently working in a pharmacy, previous experience including working as research assistant in South Africa, and some volunteer experience such as lab assistant back in school.

Everyone who applied to this program is extraordinarily amazing candidates and even if you got rejected, don’t push yourself too much, I hope everyone can find something else you’re interested in!

Also received an R yesterday.

GPA was 12.0 and I had good enough ECs to get me an OOP interview at UBC. My SOI was a little weak imo since I rushed my application. Really shows how important a solid SOI is for this application!

Congrats to everyone who got in and hopefully everything works out well for everyone who didn't!
