Unofficial admission

Hi,
The coordination of my PhD. program emailed me, informing me that I have been accepted to my dreamed school. However, the funding and scholarship information is not out yet.

I wonder if I should reply something like, "Thank you very much for the acceptance to your program! I am very excited by the idea of attending (insert university) this (insert application term). I will be taking this offer into serious consideration when making my final decision.

I look forward to furthering information about the program and financial aid decisions."

Should I wait until the formal admission?  What would you do?

  • 2 weeks later...

YMMV, but in the case of at least one school on my list, I got accepted and had to wait about three more weeks before a funding offer came through. I'm not sure how common that is, but it's not out of the question.

Depending on when the deadline is, it might be worth while to simply ask (politely, of course). If it's a recent acceptance, I would wait, but if it's been more than a month, I would email your adviser and ask if funding offers have been dissemenated already.

Good luck. I hope you get it.

Im in a grad school mentorship program and I asked my advisor a similar question, and what you wrote is basically perfect.
