studentb2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Do you know if we'll be finding that out via email or mail? Ahh, why is everything so SLOW? I googled blogs for the current ETAs in Russia, and some of them were in: Petrazavodsk Tomsk Novosibirsk Kareliya Kaluga Pushchino As long as they don't send me to the Magadan area, I'll be perfectly happy. You can add Vladivostok and Ekaterinberg to that list as well. I've heard of those. Basically, I think they are the larger cities that are scattered around Russia outside Moscow and St. Petersburg that have universities. I don't think they send anyone to the actual small villages. And I doubt they've been sending anyone to the Caucasus regions.
runaway Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I have a question for everyone who's had their medical form completed already - did your doctor write anything in section 58? It's the part where they are supposed to comment on their "significant findings". I'm in really good health and she marked me as able to perform the lecture research stuff in the following section...but nothing in section 58. Is it worth a 4th trip back to my Dr's office to have this filled out before i send it to IIE? I think she wrote "WNL" (within normal limits). Not sure if that section is important if everything was normal.
lmc588 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I just got my Spanish ETA placement, it looks like I will be in Madrid! I can't wait to meet everyone else who got assigned to Madrid. Spain people-- did you get your ETA placements through e-mail or mail? I'm still waiting for mine!
Tagi Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Accepted for a full grant to Uganda! Any fellow Uganda grantees out there? Good luck to everyone!!!!!

She didn't say, but if they are coming from Moscow, hopefully it will be via e-mail. Russian mail is literally the worst thing ever.
alifly Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Spain people-- did you get your ETA placements through e-mail or mail? I'm still waiting for mine! I got mine in an email this morning from Paul Ortega. I almost deleted it because it looked like spam, but decided to open it, and I was glad that I did! I know that people in Madrid and Cantabria have heard, so maybe if you are placed in Valencia, they haven't emailed those placements yet. I'm sure you will get your soon!
kahatch Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 To any Morocco ETA finalists out there... I got this message from Jermaine Jones today: "The hard copy notification letters for Morocco were placed in the mail from my office in New York City last Friday the 15th. Â You should therefore hopefully receive yours sometime before the end of this week." Did anyone hear back today?

Now come onnnn, Egypt...
placidtimmy Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Re: Remaining Poland notifications I received this in an email from Rachel this afternoon: We’re hoping to mail the letters this week. All the best, Rachel stillwaiting. oh wow. when last I heard from her, it was my impression they'd be sending them out LAST week. and now it's THIS week? SO MUCH SUSPENSE. GAH. thank goodness I have my thesis to worry over in the meantime! whew!
aglaya Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 This is gonna sound stupid, but does anyone know if Russia ETAs get housing provided for or at least assisted with or are we entirely monetarily responsible for housing? Hopefully we'll find that out when we find out about where we are placed.
studentb2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Hopefully we'll find that out when we find out about where we are placed. Yeah, I guess. I'm surprised they don't give us much info on that firsthand. I mean, as greatful as I am for getting the ETA, if I have to pay an exhorbitant amount for food and housing for the entire year I may not be able to accept. I just don't have that kinda money right now.
binger Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 why is australia taking so long? this is quite annoying. anyone have any info?
jg33 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 why is australia taking so long? this is quite annoying. anyone have any info? I emailed Akeley a few weeks ago and he said results are typically sent out mid-April, so I was hoping they would show up sometime this week. I'm not sure if they've been sent though. Does somebody else want to call or email him?
aglaya Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Yeah, I guess. I'm surprised they don't give us much info on that firsthand. I mean, as greatful as I am for getting the ETA, if I have to pay an exhorbitant amount for food and housing for the entire year I may not be able to accept. I just don't have that kinda money right now. This is from the orientation handbook (found on the fulbright website). It sounds like they'll pay for housing... Fulbright Grants generally provide round-trip transportation, language or orientation courses (when appropriate), a book allowance, maintenance for the academic year based on living costs in the host country, a nominal research allowance, (when appropriate), and health and accident coverage. For some countries, full or partial tuition is also offered. Please note that the grant does not provide more than a minimal allowance for books and research. If you have a project that requires extensive research materials or equipment, you should obtain funding from other sources for this purpose. Fulbright Travel Grants provide round-trip transportation and health and accident coverage. In some instances, outlined in your grant documents, they may also provide for a language or orientation program. Fulbright Grants are payable in local currency or U.S. dollars depending on country of assignment. Funds received concurrently with a Fulbright Grant from other scholarships, fellowships, or grants in U.S. or foreign currencies will be deducted if they duplicate benefits received under the Fulbright Grant. If such grants are for assistance in meeting family expenses of grantees or other expenses not covered by the grant, no deduction will be made. Grantees may not accept remunerative work abroad during the period of the grant without prior approval of the supervising agency in the host country and IIE.

I really want to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!
studentb2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 This is from the orientation handbook (found on the fulbright website). It sounds like they'll pay for housing... Well, that's for grants. I wanna know about ETAs. They say "maintenance costs" - does that mean housing? I guess if the city was outrageously expensive they won't pay for all of it. But I mean, none of us are going to expensive Moscow so what exactly would they pay for??? I hope they tell us blatantly when we find out our placements. I really need to know. Really, all I can afford is the extra spending money I'll need and that's it.

cericherry Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Received my letter today (Monday) for Mexico and I'm in MA. I got it! Mexico Business Fulbright here I go!!! Also, does anyone in Mexico know their exact placement/location? Good luck!!!

It kind of seems like we'll receive money to live off of, but less than the Full Grant people (because they have a book/research component to the stipend). Hopefully we will find out soon! Does anyone have any place in particular they would like to be? I'm just happy to be going back to Russia.

ana1031 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Mexico City! for research! Do you know if we have to go to the orientation in DC? From what I understood on the orientation schedule, only ETA had to go...so I'm guessing we don't? Received my letter today (Monday) for Mexico and I'm in MA. I got it! Mexico Business Fulbright here I go!!! Also, does anyone in Mexico know their exact placement/location? Good luck!!!
mthedoor Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 [The following is a rather useless spout of anxiety...] I applied to an ETA in Thailand and was excited to find out that letters had been mailed earlier last week. The problem is that I haven't had mail access since Friday--my college mailbox is closed on Saturdays, and Patriot's day (don't even ask, Massachusetts is strange) meant that I couldn't check the mail yesterday either. I know how useless this concern is (why would me knowing 24 hours earlier or later possibly matter??), but the suspense is driving me NUTS!
Plum Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks for the update, Janish! Re: Remaining Poland notifications I received this in an email from Rachel this afternoon: We’re hoping to mail the letters this week. All the best, Rachel stillwaiting.
fulbright mongolia Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 For Fulbright Mongolia applicants: I received this reply from Jonathan Akeley this morning, much to my dismay: "It's not possible to predict exactly when the final results will become available, but we're hoping that the final notification letters for Mongolia will go out by the end of April" Hang on guys :-)
