Canadian MSW Applicants 2022

Hi everyone,

I couldn't find a thread for this topic - if one already exists please let me know.

Let's chat about MSW applications for 2022.  I am especially curious about anyone's experience with UCalgary? Their program looks very cool but I haven't heard much about it before.

Other schools I'm looking at: McMaster, Dalhousie, Laurier (apparently its very hard to get into?), Windsor MSW for Working Professionals.

I am a BSW graduate with good work experience, but my GPA isn't very strong. I'm hoping to get into a part time program, but also considering full time if need be. I'd love to find a school that offers more of a clinical focus, but that seems difficult with a less than perfect GPA.

Hey, thanks for starting the thread! I was wondering when this year's would be posted.

I'm also looking at Laurier, as well as Windsor and King's. I've started working on my Laurier application this week and it's getting me excited. I am slightly concerned at how competitive Laurier is but I am still going to try. If anyone reading this has any tips, feel free to let me know!

I know in previous threads people have posted their experience and had others review it... I am concerned I have less experience than prior year applicants. I have an Honours BSc in Mental Health Studies, post-graduate certificate in Autism and Behavioural Science. Worked as an Autism Therapist for the last 2 years or so (roughly 4000 hours). I also volunteer as a mentor to a youth in my community. My grades are average, but had a strong final year and grades in research courses. I am hoping that I will be able to shine through my supplemental applications. Anyone have any thoughts regarding my experience? I do have some older related experience as well and I was wondering if I should put this? I volunteered at a soup kitchen and with Girl Guides roughly 10 years ago.

Thanks in advance and I hope to be an active participant throughout this thread and journey with everyone! :)

Hello there!

I am a social worker from Hong Kong and currently applying for Advanced MSW in Canada. I have been working as social worker for more than 10 years (wasn't sure but 20000 hours at least?) in Clinical settings. My grades are really average comparing to the North America system (in my hometown the best student usually got 85% only!). I wasn't sure if I have the competitive edge yet I have some experiences in working as fieldwork supervisor for university. May I know if there are some social work schools in Ontario which are more and less competitive?

Currently I am going to apply: UBC, UofT, York, McMaster

Many Thanks and I hope I can understand more about the social work industry in Canada from you all!
